how did people get it in their heads that long housing is an investment

All good points. In addition to the cost of during business in this market, you are taking on an enormous amount of liquidity risk. Once an already illiquid market like real estate starts to plunge, liquidity dries up and you get slipped big time. Most folks are sitting out there with sell...

    SPY options vs index futures

But that is my point. How about ITM that are a few months out. If you wish to use them for anything but day-trading, forget it.

    SPY options vs index futures

I also doubt that long term options on SPY have tigher spreads than ES. It also depends on whether they are in or out of the money, etc.

    SPY options vs index futures

SPY options are tighter than ES? No way... SPY options couldn't be more liquid than ES. Heck, even SPY itself isn't more liquid than ES, or?

    Psychology, are you sure?

Travis, you are very correct that there has been confusion about whether we are talking about discretionary or automated trading. Indeed, I think that discretionary trading will always have a bit more psychology involved. HOWEVER, I think that most of this has to do with large order sizes. I can...

    Psychology, are you sure?

Interesting. WealthLab uses C# which I can code, however, this seems a bit over-kill for such a linear application. Scripting languages should do the trick. Sorry if this question sounds dumb, however, I don't understand how the code is linked to TWS to execute the orders

With SPY, do stocks really matter for position trading?

Frankly I have been thinking about whether value investing really works. You can still make money that way for the wrong reasons (i.e. the stock you bought gets pulled up with the general bull market). Value investors talk about a margin of safety when you buy a stock at a discount, however...
