neke, are you certain that it is worth putting your money in single stocks (even if it only intra-day)? Look at what happened to MTXX! have you considered the other commodities such as corn, OJ, etc?

    Psychology, are you sure?

Are we talking intra-day here? Most will not be able to tell you, since they do not have sufficiently profitable intra-day methods. (And just because somebody posts a video of themselves in-front of 6 monitors does not by a long shot mean that they can either). In fact, it could be a signal...

Forty percent of the volume is comprised of four used dogfood stocks

The powers that be have a lot vesting in pushing the SP500 up. Everybody watches it as it is used a general proxy for global (nost just U.S.) business activity. Money losens up everywhere in a bull market. The HFT theory might have some merit, however, the March bull run did get started with...

    IF the USD keeps declining...

You just contradicted yourself. And yes, wikipedia is known to be an oh-so reliable source of accurate info. You are quite educated, Sir.

    IF the USD keeps declining...

Ok, so you are part of the "hyperinflation" crowd--nothing new there. There is little in your little essay that contradicts what I said. However, you failed to mention that even with the M0 expansion, how much wealth has been destroyed vs. liquidity pumped (NOT PRINTED) into the market. So...

    IF the USD keeps declining...

No, it is not. M3 has hardly grown more than it has in past years. This kind of misinformation results in the "hyperinflation, printing press" hysteria (and causes bubbles). Dump money hard at work...

    IF the USD keeps declining...

"dollars floating around out there"??? Economics requires us to be a bit mroe specific than that. LEt's start with M0.

how did people get it in their heads that long housing is an investment

No present tense. It still is going down the tubes. Don't confuse a blimp on a chart with a new bull market (or govt propaganda with reality for that matter). No. Over the last decades, there was nothing local about the real estate boom. It was driven by the boomer demographic and easy...

how did people get it in their heads that long housing is an investment

Come to MA, it will change your mind. Buyers here are recently outbidding each other. 5 years from now the rest of the supply the banks are holding will have been dumped onto the market. Not to mentioned the resetting of higher level mortgages that are also seeing increasingly high default...

    Psychology, are you sure?

travis, indeed, the order of the factors up for discussion is paramount. As is the order of the general factors of trading that one should consider. Let me therefore propose a possible order that the three elements of trading might be grouped into (in order of consideration). 1. Money...

how did people get it in their heads that long housing is an investment

Unless you perform a detailed risk analysis, this is a blanket statemtent that may or may not be true. Housing is a VERY illiquid asset and if you get stuck in it, you can be stuck for a long time. Liquidity risk is one of the most important risks to consider, or else we would all be trading...

how did people get it in their heads that long housing is an investment

A clear sign of hysteria. There will be plenty of additional supply hitting the market when additional mortgages reset and bank supply hits the market. Statements like this are what got the bubble going in the first place.

how did people get it in their heads that long housing is an investment

We'll see. Nobody has a claim on predicting where the market will go (and if it can go further down). Right now, I don't see how value investing is possible in real estate. Prices are still out of wack.
