    Prop Firm Dislike/Hate

Besides the extra BP, some props enforce risk management (although not all of them)... many people don't like it, but it is a big help to keep down the price of the learning curve...

    Charts, level 2 or both

I learned to trade using L2 and I still feel that charts leave out a lot of critical information. More than looking at the actual displayed size, I try to see in the DOM which side is more inclined to cancel their orders... and which side seems to want getting a fill... This helps in...

    Traders with mental problems

In my case being bipolar type II made it very difficult to trade successfully for extended periods of time. The emotions related to trading (such as fear, greed, anxiety) made the mood swings much stronger than they usually are. At the same time, the "current" point in the mood swing also had an...

    Prop Firm Dislike/Hate

One of the best threads I've seen on Prop firms... Regarding the dislike/hate we see in a lot of ppl on this and other forums. I don't think that it has to do with the deposit, as it is true even for prop firms that don't charge anything to traders... I think it has to do with the prop...

    Ping and Latency

Ping time depends on where you are in the world... e.g. a ping time that's considered awesome for someone trading NYSE from Hong Kong is considered terrible by someone trading from Chicago... Fiber is usually faster than cable.

    Getco

they're one of the biggest hft players. (maybe even the biggest) they're the ones that put wedbush on the top of the nsdq volume every month... They're DMM's in a bunch on NYSE symbols... and I hear they're buying BAC's MM'ing business... (this change will make them the second largest...

    Short strangles on stocks

Dinamic hedging is one of the many impossible yet fundamental assumptions of the black scholes PDE. :) it was put into practice a few years ago, it is partially blamed for the 1987 crash and also for the collapse of LTCM... it normally works like a charm, but produces an abnormally large...

Help a noob unwind from a position?

when figuring out wether or not to sell the position, look at what the market is doing, not your PNL. The market doesn't care that your position has lost too much or too little, it'll do what it is doing regardless of you. if liquidity is a concern then move slowly, sell a little when the...

    front running from pit noise

I think A... if they need to sell a large order they'll come to the pit with a buy ... making it seem as if they're buyers when people start to front run em, they start selling... I've heard such moves on the squawk all the time... during a moment of turmoil they'll come out and...

    Models Behaving Badly

It is not the models that misbehave, it is the market. :) Models that expect mild randomness simply fail to understand the chaotic nature of markets. A good rule of thumb is: if the model is based on log normal markets... it is useless.
