Cutting Russia off SWIFT - Germany and Italy now on board

After Russia is cut off from SWIFT - here is a huge hammer that can really make a difference. There are a few thousand regime supporters that are propping Putin up without whom he would not be able to reign. It's the oligarchs, and their families. Some of them are in Russia but most of the...

Cutting Russia off SWIFT - Germany and Italy now on board

So - who is left opposing it? Cyprus and Hungary. And Biden.

So - the answer to "Will Putin Invade Ukraine"

You are way too optimistic about the cojones availability in Western politicians.

    UK finally does something

As I said, over the last few decades, the West has emasculated itself so much that cowardice is now seen as a virtue and money trumps every other interest, including security. You know why it is seen as a "last resort"? Because Western creditors won't be able to, easily, get their money from...

Yeah, cuz invading a neighboring country is not enough.

    UK finally does something

I looked at old data yes. US imports around 20M barrels a month from Russia. US consumes around 18M barrels a day. US domestic oil production in 2021 - a bit above 11M barrels a day. It will take a bit, but with $100 oil, I am sure domestic production will increase.

    UK finally does something

Russia is 12% of worldwide oil production. The sanctions will not remove all 12% unless Russians completely halt production - they will just not allow payments except into escrow accounts until the resolution of the conflict. And if Russians completely halt it - talk about slashing your throat...

Oligarchs. Not "all Russians". They are the ones that prop the criminal Russian state.

    UK finally does something

UK - freezes the assets of all major Russian banks, including VTB Bank, the nation’s second-biggest bank. Britain also plans to bar Russian companies and the Russian government from raising money on U.K. markets. Britain will also ban the export of a wide range of high-tech products, including...

So - the answer to "Will Putin Invade Ukraine"

President Vladimir V. Putin has learned from earlier U.S.-led sanctions, and his allies could benefit from a more isolated Russia. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/22/us/politics/russia-biden-sanctions-ukraine.html

So - the answer to "Will Putin Invade Ukraine"

Ok I looked what the new sanctions are. Two banks were sanctioned - that is, they can't do business with the US. But they can (and will) do business with the rest of the world (in spite of what Biden said), as long as it is not through the US subsidiaries. They also still have access to SWIFT...

So - the answer to "Will Putin Invade Ukraine"

Biden, in 2019: "Putin knows that when I am president of the United States his days of tyranny and trying to intimidate the United States and those in Eastern Europe are over." Putin: "Hold my beer".

So - the answer to "Will Putin Invade Ukraine"

Again, what sanctions? So far the only sanctions I have seen was "an Executive Order that will prohibit new investment, trade, and financing by U.S. persons to, from, or in the so-called DNR and LNR regions of Ukraine." That is completely useless, since no one in the US is trading with...

    Will Russia invade Ukraine

In Yes, Minister, the person who spoke like that was very smart, and his phrases were fully coherent yet purposefully meaningless. Kamala Harris is dumb as a rock, and her phrasing is incoherent and therefore meaningless. Otherwise, yes, sounds like Yes, Minister.

    Will Russia invade Ukraine

This is an actual quote. This is NOT made up. Reporter: Will sanctions deter Putin? Kamala Harris: Within the context then of the fact that that window is still opening, although, open, although it is absolutely narrowing, but within the context of a diplomatic path still being open.
