Well. there is no Russian "Z" it is a Latin Z. Russians sometimes use Latin letters, in something like math equations, so they know the Latin alphabet. I believe in the beginning of the war they were marked Z for "zapad" (West) and V for "vostok" (East). And then it just snowballed from there.
