    Ib Tws Problem??

Thanks, that seems to have helped. Any idea, in simple terms, what the change accomplished?

    Ib Tws Problem??

Interested to know if anyone else has experienced the problem of IB's java workstation slowing down other applications. I'm on WIndows XP with lots of RAM, and when the workstation is open my other apps just begin to drag. Overall slow operations, even opening web pages, updating other data...

Are there pullback systems that backtest well?

Ken DTU: backtesting? no it's the Right edge of the chart that counts But backtesting takes the fear out of falling off the edge. Without backtesting, it would have been virtually impossible for me to put some excellent pullback systems in place. Ken DTU: pullbacks? no it's Breakouts...

Are there pullback systems that backtest well?

What parameters were you testing for a pullback system that wasn't giving you good results? My experience has been that a good pullback system is easier to trade and generally more profitable than breakouts for swing trades.

    Options: advantages/disadvantages?

You hit the heart of the biggest problem with options. Countless fortunes have been lost - including a large part of mine a few years ago - when a new options trader is lucky enough to hit a few winners out of the gate while trading small. Then he begins to size up and loses sight of the...

    Options: advantages/disadvantages?

The fact that you would even pose this question - are short calls more risky than short stock - says everything that needs to be said about your credibility. If Roberk elects to ignore the disclaimers of risk posted by virtually EVERY exchange and broker, then that is his decision. But to...

jesus christ was insane or a liar

I'm with you. After believing in a simple 2000-year-old message of peace and love, I can see now how wrong I was. And to think that I finally found the truth on a trading site. What a miracle, and what a blessing that people of such maturity and brilliance should show me the error of...

    Options: advantages/disadvantages?

Really? I never mentioned any particular brokers, and I am certainly not a broker myself. But name for us a broker that does NOT require that you read a risk disclosure before trading options. Any idea at all why that's the case? Would you like to share it with us?

    Options: advantages/disadvantages?

In my case, I do this for a living, and I do know precisely what I am talking about. However, in your case, to propose to a new trader that short options do not carry "tremendous risk" is to clearly put yourself in that camp of 99% who DON'T know what they are talking about. And for each...

    Options: advantages/disadvantages?

Until you are trading a seven-figure account and have at least 5 years of successful experience, you would be well advised to stear clear of options in any form. Stick to trading the underlying and you will be a much happier person. For long options, spreads and decay will kill you. For...

    Any Biotech experts on ET?

What's the fund? If they are solidly plugged into the industry, it's certainly a better play than trying to trade the stocks on your own.

    Any Biotech experts on ET?

Drugs are the single category of stocks I never touch. Far too many variables and unknowns can impact the stocks, from government regulators to lawsuits, patient deaths, failed trials, patent suits, etc. etc. etc. And once a drug stock gets hit hard, they typically take a long time to...

    Advice

If you have any trading skills at all, you can make good money with EOD data. I did it for years. The idea that you need to daytrade to make money as a trader is ridiculous. And you'd be a fool to give up solid opportunities to gain professional experience. You can always trade full time later...

    I have a loss of 1.400% by

If you are comparing short options to long options, neither is attractive to me. But if you are saying here that short options are more profitable over time than long stock, that is complete crap. You must be falling for the B.S. put out by your own trading group.

    I have a loss of 1.400% by

I always find it easy to identify posts by someone who has actually traded a strategy - such as short options - from those who have simply studied it and think they have the answers. In your case, if you had actually traded short options on a regular basis for any length of time in various...

    I have a loss of 1.400% by

Years ago when I was stupid enough to be looking at short options strategies, I asked an options broker if I could create a regular income stream through selling premium on calls or puts. "Can't do it," he said. "But why not?", I asked. "Because shit happens," was his answer. Of...

    I have a loss of 1.400% by

No, I don't trade short as there are more than enough opportunities for long profits. While I do appreciate that there is value in the short side for some trades, or traders, that does not include short calls, under any circumstances. Very limited profit for virtually unlimited risk. One bad...

    I have a loss of 1.400% by

Prepared? The day that I need to be prepared to take a 1400% loss is the day that I need to seriously consider what I am trading. And that would definitely not EVER be short calls on anything. A suckers game, for sure.

Searching for good traders, stocks and futures

Maybe I'm missing something, as I have no experience working with funds or firms, but what is to prevent a proven trader from executing trades for a fund (remote), while at the same time trading his own account? Is there a regulatory issue? If it is just a matter of entering trades in...
