I like FUTURES better than stocks! I'm not comparing Bright to TST. And you are right. No one should put $50K in Bright unless they think the ROI is higher on that $50K than the alternatives. I think a combination of long-term stocks/etfs/mutual funds allocated correctly is probably safer and...

Mav, Thanks for the clarifications. I've always respected your commentaries here on ET. In that light, it makes sense. I guess if you are broke then maybe it offers hope. But the broke/beginner trader still has to front the few hundred dollars to enter the Combine. Does that beginner...

Thanks for answering and clarifying these points! Then it seems it's "better" to just take the normal 60% cut and withdraw regularly. Do they allow the trader to withdraw every 2 weeks(assuming there's profit and regular steady profits). Or monthly withdraw. In light of these clarifying...

Interesting. Seems like a tight tradeoffs. I got a couple of questions here on the rules of a "Senior Trader": Receive an increased profit split +$15K in cumulative profits - Keep 70% +$30K in cumulative profits - Keep 80% Does that means the trader has to have already made $15K? Or keep...

    Backtesting for the chronically frugal

I have had much time to play with Quantopian. I think their API from my very cursory look at it is not in the same framework as Tradestation, which seems more natural for traders. But there's also this https://www.quantconnect.com/ It's also free but it uses C# instead of python.

    Backtesting for the chronically frugal

Check out quantopian. It's FREE. I believe the resolution is minute(perhaps tick now not sure) All you have to do is learn PYTHON and their API. Pretty cool.. I'm waiting for them to have FUTURES data...

The 31-Year-Old Hedge Fund Star Who Was Paid $119 Million

If you scroll to the end of the article it states: "Levin did not earn a salary last year and was paid $64,617 in cash compensation, an SEC filing shows. Och-Ziff granted 12 million operating Group D retention units to Levin in 2013 that converted into Group A units in May 2013 and vest in...

Meet The 24-Year-Old Running A $115 Million Hedge Fund

quick google search yields: " In his first quarter of trading the S&P rose 7%; his investments gained 31%. At that point a Caltech finance professor, Jaksa Cvitanic, introduced him to a group of Taiwanese investors who agreed to invest $2 million with him. SBB Research Group was born."...

Twitter pays engineer $10 million as Silicon Valley tussles for talent

Yes, true. Technically, he's not an engineer, but VP of Engineering. So, management. He does have a strong technical background though with a Phd in engineering. *bows* Though I'm not trying to be EMG (LOL), but a lot of daytraders should learn STEM and get way better jobs than struggling...

Is counter trend trading a disease?

I'm not saying I don't make money counter trend trading. I do! But it's really not worth it, because the little that I do make counter trading is usually wiped out and some more on superstrong trend days. But from a pure trading logic point of view, it doesn't matter trend or countertrend...

Is counter trend trading a disease?

NoDoji: Thanks for sharing your experience with countertrend trading. Mine was similar. I can say most of my biggest losses were from countertrend trades that I didn't get out at a small loss and it turned into monster losses. In fact, during my dark periods, one countertrend trade would wipe...

Anyone not making 200k a year from trading is a piker

You have a valid point. I was just giving a solid example to support ssrrkk points about well-paying corporate jobs making trading a mute point. Yes, it's true it's hard to get those jobs. And not everyone will qualified or have the experience to get those. My point was NOT that people should...

Anyone not making 200k a year from trading is a piker

ssrrkk, good points you've made. Here are the proof: To elaborate, here are some sample salaries at a high paying tech company (Netflix). [Note: I do NOT work there.] http://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/Netflix-Los-Gatos-Salaries-EI_IE11891.0,7_IL.8,17_IC1147427.htm Sr Software Eng...

    Help with Mixing Timeframe

Ever since I posted this thread, I've come to terms with a few things. I think how your mind frame the problem helps you solve and deal with the problem better. First, I realize most of my profits come from swing trading. But the setups that I look for doesn't always appear that often. So...

Anyone not making 200k a year from trading is a piker

ssrrkk: That's a great point. That the very same reasoning that I quit daytrading and went back to corporate world. The risk/reward just isn't there unless you are a superstar at daytrading. Now, I just trade on the side. Swing and daytrade. It doesn't materially affect my net worth. But I...

    Help with Mixing Timeframe

The verdict is in after careful thoughts and the feedbacks from this forum. Daytrading isn't for me. Which I already knew years ago that's why I switched to swing trading. So, I have two choices and I have to pick them and live with the consequences. 1) Sit through all the noise while I...
