if bullish on VXX, one guru has a strat where he goes long a VXX call and then sells ATM wkly calls against it to cover the loss due to the contango roll while waiting for a move up. he uses a ratio of only selling 50% of the number of short contracts against the long contracts

ok i see where you are going, and it is beyond where i want to go. with IWM, it will usually move more than the other indexs and it has good volume and decent bid/ask spreads in the options, so it works for what i am trying to do and keep it simple. i only deal with etfs, and a few stocks.

IWM is the etf for the RUT index.

its based on tomorrow being the first trading day of the month, which is usually up, and also that anticipation of the fed release usually sends the market up, so we have 2 short term drivers which could send the market up tomorrow. i am just looking for a quick pop, could be out tomorrow in...
