Taking 103K to 1.2million by Year End 2008

Nope, unless the stiock goes to zero while I am holding it long (impossible intra-day, certainly not for the stocks I trade). Moreover, the actual amount used for each trade depends on the perceived risk. I could use 200% to buy SPY intra-day. In spite of increased volatility in the market, it...

Taking 103K to 1.2million by Year End 2008

It is like surfing the web at work. I realise I still have to get my regular work done. BTW, I do only 3-5 trades a day. So it is not really as intense as you would think. When I watch for a trade, it is normally with the intention of holding for the day or overnight.

Taking 103K to 1.2million by Year End 2008

Ok I took some time to calculate the statistics, since I have no software that generates those. For the period 1/13/2008 till date, the average winning trade is $2999, while the average loser is -$3624. That is however not very meaningful, knowing the balance on account has ranged from 103K...

How did Anek make a 100 grand today?

What a betrayal of trust! Nobody should do business with you after reading this. Do you know you could be sued for disclosing such information?

WSJ: SEC Charges Mark Cuban With Insider Trading

What took them four years to discover? And to think their source is his own blog. That is witch-hunting! Should probably tell folks to be careful what they say on public forums.

Not going into personal matters. Lets just say, I am in North America.

Taking 103K to 1.2million by Year End 2008

11/14/2008 Weekly Update for week 44 ended 11/14/2008 Good week, up 56K (16.4%). Lost money Mon, Tue, Wednesday. Came back mightily Thurs, Fri. On Wednesday, lost 25K trying to call a bottom to the downtrend: Bought 400 SPY CALL (SZCKJ) @ 3.13 average, closed @ 2.53 as the market kept...

Taking 103K to 1.2million by Year End 2008

I try to keep a low profile about this at work. (After all trading in the office is still "officially" not allowed). But my close colleagues are aware I do trade. I do not disclose how much I make, but from my financial situation (pay for my parking close to office while they go with public...

Taking 103K to 1.2million by Year End 2008

Of course I know these things happen, just trying to add some rationality to the move. Bought 4000 SPY at 82.7 and sold at 85.2 (way too early). Did not have the gut to load up with options or stay to the close. It could have been a sweep.

Taking 103K to 1.2million by Year End 2008

Never ceases to amaze me. Why did these guys suddenly discover at 1pm today that stocks are cheap? And for that they are ready to bid even after 10% up move from the lows?

Taking 103K to 1.2million by Year End 2008

Weekly Update for week 43 ended 11/07/2008 Frustrating week, down 37K (9.5%). I've always had some sense of apprehension each Monday,as the lack of trading over the prior days makes me too eager to enter the first trade without due diligence. That happened on Monday, as I shorted CME, kept...

Former skeptic, 200k savings, taking active trading seriously

Good comments. Abstaining from trading is the difficult part. There are a lot of costs involved in trading that make it a very losing proposition in the absence of an edge (better than random). Keeping disciplined enough to wait for those better-than-random opportunities make it worthwhile in...

Best Broker For ETFs... $500K-$1MM Orders

When that happens, just replace your order with a much inferior limit price. Once they see you are gone, or think you are bluffing, the price comes down precipitously as they seek to get out. You may end up getting a better price.

20000 = 200 contracts representing 20000 shares, which you could have figured out from the purchase amount. Wise up! And where did you read SPY 64 call?

Taking 103K to 1.2million by Year End 2008

Until the recent market craziness, most of my trades were individual stocks and stock options, not SPY. I have benefitted by trading SPY options because of the big ranges. I have thought of futures, and the reduction in spread costs, but I don't think I have been moved enough to do that...
