    2012: The Battle for Survival

Weekly Update for week 35/50 ended 9/15/2012 Ugly week, down 10.8K (7.4%). The nasty days were Thurs and Fri. Got my put options decimated by the market rally that left me with a 6K loss on Thursday. Got disoriented by this, and let it influence my trading on Fri. While I should have...

    2012: The Battle for Survival

If I had to look at "market" event calendar to decide whether to enter a position in individual names, I would never place a single trade. Is there a single day there is not something coming up? Fed meeting, Job numbers, Manufacturing data, Bernanke speeches, Draghi speeches etc etc.

    2012: The Battle for Survival

Geez, TA "magic" level being presented. So -20000 is resistance (from week 18)? Went above that last week, don't you count that a break-out? What about -30K, -42K: Aren't those "resistances" as well?

    2012: The Battle for Survival

You've just got to hate days like this - short individual names according to rules, and then the market does BOOOM!

    2012: The Battle for Survival

I think it is "doing more of what works and less of what does not work" that is responsible for the improvement. Like I said, some strategies are under ban because for the last couple of years they have been bleeding. That coupled with the systematic check on averaging down and enforcement of...

    2012: The Battle for Survival

Yes, size has incrementally gone up (after these weeks of consecutive gains on increased confidence), but still nowhere near optimal f.

    2012: The Battle for Survival

Weekly Update for week 34/50 ended 9/7/2012 Great week, up 19K (14.6%). Delighted the good times are not gone forever. Missed out on much of the move on Thursday being absent in the early morning, but still made little money going with the momentum. The big money was on Fri as I faded...

    2012: The Battle for Survival

Thanks. I sure hope the streak continues. Little by little confidence will come back.

    Question for the experts, please

Yeah, the 10% you are wrong might be the 13-bagger loss like I had on GOOG the week ended 5/18/2012 :D :D. So the 90% rate is useless without putting a context to it. By and large I believe options are fairly priced. You will make no money randomly selling or buying (after costs). The edge is...

    2012: The Battle for Survival

Weekly Update for week 33/50 ended 8/31/2012 Ok week, up 2K (1.6%). Things have quietened down a bit in the market for my core strategies, still managed to get 9 trades. For the four weeks ended 8/31/2012, gain comes to +20.2K against a target of +4K. Hoping for more of this. Every...

    IB API Close all Positions

Yes, you can get $12/hr for a programmer offshore, but they will need at least 2 hrs to have you explain what you want, talkless of getting IBs API and developing/debugging and getting used to them. Don't assume they have been working with the TWS and the API for ages.

    2012: The Battle for Survival

Weekly Update for week 32/50 ended 8/25/2012 Nice week, up 10K (8.4%) on 18 trades. Nice to hit a 5-figure week once again. Delighted some key discretionary strategies are showing some sign of life once again. It is important to remain disciplined with the sizing rules and avoid the...

    Apple going to 2500 ..

By then the justice department will have forced it to split into multiple companies. Too big for government.

    2012: The Battle for Survival

Weekly Update for week 31/50 ended 8/18/2012 Flat as it goes. Up $5 on 11 trades. Lacked the consistency needed to turn out a nice week. Opening Balance: 119,156 Net gain for the week 5 ------------------------------------------------ Net Balance...

    2012: The Battle for Survival

Weekly Update for week 30/50 ended 8/11/2012 Nice week, up 8K (7.3%). Good collection of winners on small size. Did add back a number of dicretionary strategies that were halted. The key is playing them with the discipline required on small size. Opening Balance...

    2012: The Battle for Survival

Weekly Update for week 29/50 ended 8/3/2012 Moderately positive week, up 1.8K (1.6%). Took out 4K for the month ended 7/31/2012. For the five weeks ended 8/3/2012, it is a lot of disappointment, losing 14K against a target of +6K. For the next four weeks, target is being set at +4K: it...

IB faces the same risks as Knight Capital

Daily loss limit might be useless if there is a software bug, although I believe IB has far more checks built into their market making operation than KCG. One reason I could think of for KCG having this bug , and taking more than 30 minutes to halt it, is they might have been thinking the...
