Oil trading head calls for carbon levy. What next?

They want to attract more participation in the OTC Carbon Credits trading markets. Which as it’s currently configured is manipulated and is mostly a wealth transfer mechanism and to date hasn’t really lowered Carbon emissions an appreciable amount as far as I can tell. But academic proponents...

Need Guidance Getting Started with Small Account

Destriero had a fantastic thread in the Journals Section documenting his options trades earlier this year. He is undoubtedly a superb options trader. And while you might not be an options trader, reading that thread will give you a sense of the level of knowledge and competency required to be...

The changing character of the Futures Market brought about with the introduction of Micro contracts.

I haven’t seen micros changing the structure of the bigger contracts to date - the fee structure for the micros is brilliant in that respect.

The changing character of the Futures Market brought about with the introduction of Micro contracts.

Futures have an advantage that has endured through decades of technological change - it’s just as easy to sell as it is to buy. And if you’re fortunate enough to make some money at it, the tax treatment is favorable.

    Madoff clients to return profits

I'm not an attorney, but my understanding is that the concept of stolen property always being returned to the rightful owner is deeply seated in English Common Law - which is of course the foundation for US Law. If I unknowingly buy a stolen horse, and the rightful owner of the horse can prove...

Custom margin limits / margin offsets? Does any broker provide?

When I worked at a Hedge Fund, we used a prime broker and that is precisely what they did. In my case, they calculated an offset margin in order for me to trade OTC Electricity Options versus OTC Natural Gas Options as an inter market spread. Prime brokerage is offered by all the major...

Need Guidance Getting Started with Small Account

With swing trading, you start out with the smallest increment of risk you can. 100 shares of stock, micro futures, future spreads are good candidates. The important part is to not have any emotional anxiety about having on an open position. Once you have proven to yourself that you can take...

    Corn.

Unless Samoa is a small town in Illinois... The CME contract had a nice move up in August, but it's off this week. It's possible that the less than stellar corn crop coming out of China had something to do with it but IDK I drink my corn from a jar.

Need Guidance Getting Started with Small Account

Just my own 2 cents: swing trade, don't day trade. I know that is not a popular opinion with many, but I am being sincere. And it will be much easier on you if you have a steady income stream doing something other than trading. You'll make better trading decisions if you are not forcing...

    Arbitrage trading on WMT/COST

You are really going against the last 32 months of data. Unless you know something about earnings that the rest of the Street is not privy to. TBH, that spread has been a strong sell since the Spring of 2004 - it rallied in 2017 but otherwise it's been a dog.
