    Bank Woes Deepening in Europe

Sooner or later the ECB will panic over their rotting banking system. The day to short bunds will be when the ECB's biggest hawk Weber will get publicly crucified in the Berlin Reichstag by a mob of revolting proletarians.

House price ETF´s Macroshares Major Metro Hsg Up / Down started trading today

How soon until these are unlisted? I like the idea of trading home prices, but am skeptical of these "paired ETFs". Didn't those paired crude oil predecessors die out due to low volume?

Hyperinflation Could Hit US In 5-10 Years: Marc Faber

The effect of labor costs on CPI is bigger than gasoline's -- and labor costs have been flat to down, possibly for many more months from here.

The Credit Crisis Financial Stocks Short Journal

If you read between the lines, over his entire letter then I think you are misinterpreting him by saying he switched from the "low inflation, Japan-style 10-20 year bubble implosion" camp to the "a decade of out of control, above average inflation, starting in 3 years" fanclub. He puts...

    Short DAX at 7740

Was he? His "massive short covering rally" that he proclaimed at 4750 kind of fizzled out around 5000 and now we're back at 4750. That facts as it stands is that Goldberg's massive short squeeze that he predicted never happened after he predicted it. It happened in March and April, not in May...

Hyperinflation Could Hit US In 5-10 Years: Marc Faber

If Gold rises 5000% and prices for meat/rent/healthcare/insurance/hairdresser/cleaning lady/phone bill stay the same, is that hyperinflation? What if Diamond prices go up 5000000%? Is that also hyperinflation? What about sesame seeds? What if they go up 100000000%? Hyperinflation? The CRB...

Hyperinflation Could Hit US In 5-10 Years: Marc Faber

Allegedly Rogers is now involved in some farm projects in Canada and Brazil, see http://www.investorazzi.com/2009/04/06/latest-on-jim-rogers%E2%80%99-farmland-projects/ -- if that is correct then at least he puts his money where his mouth is, since one of his theories is that farming will be the...

Hyperinflation Could Hit US In 5-10 Years: Marc Faber

According to Faber's definition the US already was in a period of "hyperinflation" in 79/80 then (CPI was at 13.5%). Clearly, that wasn't hyperinflation if one assumes that entails price increases being "out of control". While there is no hard definition, Wikipedia suggests But I guess a talking...

Why does the Euro show up on pre-Euro historical data?

You can synthetically generate those prices using historical Deutsche Mark, French Franc, Italian Lira etc. quotes, applying the respective weights that were used in the EUR creation.

Michael Covel Says: Greed Is Good

There are tons of journalists/newsletter writers/TV talking heads who don't trade but constantly feel they have to give dozens of trading recommendations and "opinions" on where markets are headed. Covel is not one of them as far as I can see.

    • "Chinese Economy's Fall Will Be As Shocking As The Chinese Bull Case Bubble"

One thing I find interesting with the comparisons of China 2000-2050 and US 1900-1950 is that while the US became the undisputed economic superpower in that period, the Dow Jones only managed to eek out an annual price gain of only 2.8% annualized (50 in 1900 to ~200 in 1950). While I...

A Tidbit from Dave Rosenberg on Inflation

Or this one, from November 2002 (http://www.financialsense.com/transcriptions/2002/Faber.html): At the time the S&P was right at 900, a few months from the 2003 rally that would take it up 72% from the time Dr. Dumbass made his amazing call. Not having a public track record that "remembers"...

Myspace Acquisition Looks Like An Overpriced Mistake For News Corp

All these free Webservices are finding out that eyeballs are worth nothing and as soon as you try to monetize them.. they leave -- to some similar free service with less ads that hopes to attract more eyeballs and then hopes to monetize them, which of course fails. And the cycle starts anew.
