    is this trade profitable?

The ONLY value that matters is net liquidation. Sell whatever you want -- your cash will go up, as will your liabilities: your net liq. ("which is yours to use") won't change in the least.

25% tariff on goods coming in from Mexico announced

The thing is, it's actually refining of available ores. The three global hot spots are U.S., China, and Africa -- we were actually shipping *our* ore to China for refinement. In the meantime, there is now a fourth area -- the shallows of the South China Sea -- in areas controlled by Japan...

Passive index investing is the new mortgage crisis?

Errrr, I like your idea, but I think you stated it backwards -- elastic demand will respond relatively more %-wise to a $1 shock, while inelastic demand will respond materially less. Helpful?

25% tariff on goods coming in from Mexico announced

So he's blaming Mexico (half-way lawless, and on our border) for the complete breakdown in civil society off of *their* southern borders. Fucking brilliant, and a sure way to make friends and influence people -- OR a sure way to ruin Mexico completely, insuring the Western Hemisphere goes mostly...

Passive index investing is the new mortgage crisis?

I agree very much with the first thought -- there is much hand-wringing going on over what is in fact a stable economy. But I disagree 'very much' on the second thought, and here's why. With a glance at towards Norbert's cites above, student debt is wiping out the ability to own a...

Passive index investing is the new mortgage crisis?

I think we should dump this mess on the Congressional retirement fund -- this ("student debt") mess was a bi-partisan creation by them, added to by them, compounded by them, and made 'inescapable' by them. Newt Grinchmas, Tipsy O'Neal, signed by Smiling Ron Reagan (a hero of mine, but..."Damn.")...

Is there trading software that can identify and analyze similar trading days?

I built one -- taking nothing more sophisticated than what's available for download off of Investing.com [OHLC and volume] data, and then sorting things into buckets. I've dug this out -- apparently from 2016 as last update -- it's taken me 15 minutes just to remember how the thing flows...

    ideas for profit taking

Ha! So was I! Setting up to burn the mortgage at age 40, while hiking a National Scenic Trail with the wifie and twin boys, retirement 10 years later.... Had the world by the short ones. Yessir. Yessir. Wait. What was the question?? o_O

    Dream Exchange

VERY interesting. Venture capital wants those positions in the lifecycle of a company where their VC capital breaches whatever barriers that the prospect faces, such as the return is in multiples of 3x-4x-10x[!!!]... But they also want to be THE source. Unless that in the *sharing* of that risk...

The S&P 500 will top soon at 2925-2930

Errrrr, no. On a number of points. With regard to market uncertainty right now, keep in mind that the market is already uncertain. And we're down *almost* 200 S&P pts. Let me repeat: the uncertainty is here, and we're down almost 200 pts. Trade war: been trotting back and forth for months; it's...

Suggestions for DTE for Iron Condors

Some nearly-random thoughts: • tastytrade's leader is always trying to get their empirical guys (Tom Poston?, Al Sherbin, Jacob Whuzhizname) to state uncategorically what is impossible to state -- that, faced with an optimization task in three dimensions (being delta, theta, and vol) that it is...

Suggestions for DTE for Iron Condors

Rather than flogging the dead "45-Day Rule" equine, I'll just point out that if they had ever actually proven anything with their "research" , it would never have to be repeated.

U.S. Opens Antitrust Probe of Real Estate Brokerage Industry

Whatever happened to FSBO?? That started and all of a sudden, commissions were drying up. You used to see FSBO signs on every other house. Was it the real estate end of the financial crisis ("Great Recession") that caused all that to go away? The timing seems about right. But in the last few...

Machine Learning has incessantly changed markets

Your opening statement misstates the math, and miss-represents AI. The fact that you have a multi-recursive algo does not make it AI; the fact that you have 77/100?? trades successful does not mean you KNOW a single thing. You are driving a speedy-ass Titanic, with watertight doors that are not...
