Anyone familiar with "Numerical Methods in Finance and Economics: A MATLAB-Based Introduction?"

I ended up with a lot of time in political science, econ, "business econ" ???, finance, and math. (Slow learner, and no mathematician!) So I have taught in each of those areas. It helps when your struggles to learn the material are fresh fresh fresh. Yowwwww. I also have an eclectic bent -- I...

    TastyTrade Method

But it's not really about efficient markets, as it is about these two guys talking two different markets. Maymin (07:50) is doing the institutional thing -- buying/selling volatility|price -- which makes sense, as he's at the very Wall Street/institutional/market-making NYU/Stern. Sosnoff -- no...

"...No way to PREDICT..." And yet we use Normal and logNormal distributions, EACH AND EVERY DAY. We DEPEND UPON "IID" -- Independent & Identically-Distributed -- EACH AND EVERY DAY. BROWNIAN MOTION and WIENER PROCESS and the whole damn family of Levy & Co. But ("Uh-ohhhhhhhh!"), anytime they...

Anyone familiar with "Numerical Methods in Finance and Economics: A MATLAB-Based Introduction?"

Buy the book (wherever you may, for as cheaply as you can). The stuff you are looking for was developed 70+ years ago for WWII (Britain and Ivy Leaguers) , devolved to business schools for operations research, trundled off to Japan (Thank You, Mr. Deming) for the grand re-building, and then...

Ameritrade deliberatly cripples their news feed

IB has taken a *really*-close-to-perfect news feed/trading link arrangement, and similarly *killed* it. I can't figure why. But you're ability to trade off of alerts? Gone. Your ability TO EVEN KNOW THE TIME OF economic releases?? Gone. etc etc etc. If I was an IB partner, I'd be mighty pissed...

    Is Speedtrader reliable / shady?

You took a strong directional position in the market, and the market is moving against you. The weather right now is so nasty, that your ISP's localhub is flickering like a hurricane lantern, and has dropped signal (>1minute outage) 3 times in the last 24-hours. Your computer's video...

Not as Bad as it Seems: Schwartz Addresses the State of the Options Industry

Thank you for the summary -- very interesting stuff. Any further depth you know of? For me, I read, "The top 10 market makers represent 50 percent of the open interest and the top 35 represent 80 percent of the open interest," and if I didn't know better, I'd say that was a business model about...

    Charting stock option spreads

IB's TWS will do this just fine. My guess is others will, as well. Just be prepared for a lack of data. (I.E., use "Bid-Ask" rather than "Trades".)

Market activity after Nixon resignation and Clinton impeachment?

That's just why I made the infrastructure quip: either way, pipes still get old, and people still need water. I think the old&boring will be better'n cash -- or gold.

    The S&P has topped

I finally sold Jun09 spreads, but wider than wished. Sold 2315 on one of our dips yesterday, and 2455 as we rose to close today. Roughly 60pts up, and 80pts down. (Huh! Better width than I thought.... now that I see it written down. 10:30pm and I'm still doing homework. MAN I am slow.) Too much...

    The S&P has topped

"The S&P has topped" -- yes or no. That's all the original thread-opener stated. You could take inference from "Hell no you are smoking crack" to think maybe there's some humor about(?!?)..... But there is just no call for the amount of dick-swinging that this thread has garnered. Again. How...

    /NQ about to take off..now

The SPX' TRIN has been ferociously low all day (0.55-0.65), and the ES volume looks more like a pre-FED day. That *could* be a coiled spring keying to pop UP; but to be fair, it could be that it's "smart money" refusing to buy. I'm positioned 1.5% north, and do *not* want to plant anything...

CNBC on a tablet is way behind normal broadcast

I tag CNBC off of the free-streaming sites (which come and go on an irregular basis). I have found that the more reliable the site, the longer the offset from real-time. At the same time, those sites that are more reliable also take more RAM and CPU with their (rather pernicious) ads. I also...

TRIN (or ARMS) Index (TRIN-IBIS@IBIS) Displaying Crazy values

SPEAKING OF WHICH!!!!! SPX is down 2pts this morning, with the TRIN sitting at a way-bullish 0.64. WTF?!?!? VIX is sub10, VXST is nearly sub9.0!!! WTF?!?!? AND the volume is SQUAT. This is like preFED-Announcement sort-of stuff. Broad-broad-broad purchasing. We's poised to POP. Scary Scary...

    It's been 3 years and I'm back!

One of my favorite trading dictums is: "Don't confuse your account balance with intelligence." s0mmi, you (and a bunch of others on this thread) would obviously understand that. Best Wishes, and continued healthy outcomes to you. Awesome thread.

    The S&P has topped

BOY do I hate "The __dirt__ volatility..." Positions on for May12 (2430/2355) are nickels and dimes now, but May26 has 2430 on top and 2310s on bottom, and the 2430s are right where I sold 'em. I believe that we will stair-step up again, much as we did when this thread started. Where to? 2430...

Did you know that other than the US, only these 4 nations have economies larger than CA

$156,807,868,000/ $4,209.16 == 37,253,957.55922797 which sounds about right. (Excepting the 0.55922797 parts, which is either some "Companion Dog Training School" somewhere, or my brother moved back to Oregon. Dunno which.)
