The Fed needs to start raising rates!

I'm just curious about something that I am sure will attract some ire... However, being a devil's advocate can sometimes be enlightening. What objective measure/model do you guys have that indicates that stocks are significantly in bubble territory at the moment?

The Fed needs to start raising rates!

I agree that they should definitely address the current liquidity glut by scaling back/discontinuing the various 'special' measures and programs. The amount of extra liquidity they (and the other CBs) have injected into the system is truly staggering. I disagree with the rates view. Mainly...

Congrats, Mark! It's an achievement and you should be rightfully proud.

    Seeking advice on AUD/USD/CAD strategy

Do you have a view on vol? Otherwise, can you handle MTM pain, whatever scenario transpires? Why would you want to run a position where you're running risk you're not familiar/comfortable with? Why don't you just hedge whatever it is you're trying to hedge using fwds and be done with it?

    Do females make better traders?

There are stats, as I have mentioned in my previous post.

    CBOT 2s/5s/10s fly

Using Z9 contracts at curr mkt prices: 1000 2y contracts = 861 5y contracts = 598 10y contracts. You know what to do with these to do a fly. The calculation of instantaneous DV01 (assuming a constant CTD) is quite simple. I think there was a thread somewhere here where I attached some...

is it possible to day trade Euribor ?

    It's just 25 EUR/bp per contract. That's DV01, that is...

    Seeking advice on AUD/USD/CAD strategy

It looks suitably arbitrary... What you're trying to do is some a strange and uneasy mix of trading and hedging a fwd fx flow. Hybrids like this never work, in my experience.

    Do females make better traders?

There's some very well-known research that does suggest that women make better traders. Reason seems to be that women don't suffer from the overconfidence bias and, as a result, trade less frequently and thus lose less on transaction costs. The paper in question is 'Boys Will Be Boys...

20 Banks make 5.2 Billion in 2Q Trading Derivatives

Could be, for sure... I don't really know what goes on in equities all that well. All I know is that all the FI franchises have been absolutely printing money. It's been a bumper year for a whole bunch of people.

    Huge Anglo-Saxon gold hoard found

It was a (somewhat misguided) attempt at a joke, y'know...

Why do student loan companies exist

Because Americans are inordinately attached to and believe in mkt-based solutions to all things, including provision of public goods, such as education, healthcare, etc. The mkt is brought into play, to one degree or another, even when it makes little sense...

20 Banks make 5.2 Billion in 2Q Trading Derivatives

Most of these profits are made on fixed income flow... There's virtually no prop left at banks, for all the obvious reasons. Fixed income mkt makers are in a particularly sweet spot at the moment. On the one hand, bid/offers are wide and commission rates are tasty. On the other, govts and...

Interesting movements in spooz last night...

OKI, gents... Yet again then, I'll promise to stop making posts like this. However, I disagree. I suppose it may be because in my primary mkt there's not that many players and it ALWAYS pays to speculate/guesstimate/wonder who's doing what and why. Occasionally, this...

Interesting movements in spooz last night...

Yes, yes, I know all this... Let's assume it's a given that all of these things are not certainties, but rather possibilities. Like a fan chart, y'know, with areas of high and low probability. Given the conditions above, would you not arrive at a similar distribution?

    Huge Anglo-Saxon gold hoard found

Forget metal detectors, seems like you'll need to buy Her Majesty the Queen. The article says: "It has been declared treasure by South Staffordshire coroner Andrew Haigh, meaning it belongs to the Crown."

Interesting movements in spooz last night...

AAARGH! I knew I should have kept my mouth shut. Yes, you're right, technically, I don't know anything... However, as a thinking mkt participant, I try to find rhyme and reason behind the madness, in a probabilistic sense. Now I see two things: 1) The index sells off arnd 10pts 20...

Liquidity providers... It's not a risk-free business, obviously, but it's potentially better risk/reward.

Interesting movements in spooz last night...

Seems like the dump that took place in the last 30 mins of trading was potentially related to the hedging of Jan 1075 puts. Looks like 25k were crossed in the last 10 mins, which is pretty punchy. FWIW, caveat emptor, usual disclaimers apply...

Federal Reserve Admits Hiding Gold Swap Arrangements

Against my better judgement and my promise to stop responding, I'll say just one more thing... Why do you insist on engaging in straw man arguments? You seem intent on refuting statements that I never made. When did I ever say that the SEC is good or bad, that it does its job well or...
