    I don't know anything

Frankly, one year is not a long time at all. People who think they can master the trading skills to a point that they can be consistently profitable in a few months are either gifted in trading or overly optimistic. It took me a long time to become consistently profitable. Get back to your...

When you know it will be a bad day...

    >>> I didn't have enough sleep, I was anxious about private life, I had a hangover, I felt like a looser because I lost a few card games.... Trading is a business. You need to treat it as such. Some people are excited about trading every waking moment. Some people see it as what they...

Daytraders are delusional of the real world?

Bulls make money. Bears make money. Trading makes money. Buy and hold makes money. Indicator guys make money. Naked chart guys make money. 10-monitor guys make money. I-phone guys make money. We just make (or lose) money in different ways. I don't understand why these...

New Monitors, what is your preference

New Monitors, what is your preference

Easy or not: it is not too difficult if you are familiar with a basic PC's operation. Save money? I am not sure about that. It is economy of scale. Someone who builds a custom car from individual parts may end up paying more than buying one built in assembly operations. I built my own...

    Multiple Monitor card choice help

This resolution seems horrible in this day and age. 800x600 is very coarse. Your 3 24-inch monitors will be wasted. Get one video card that would support 4 monitors, or get 2 video cards that each would support 2 monitors. They are not that expensive these days. Probably something like...

New Monitors, what is your preference

Many of the popular brands support dual video output. Make sure on the box you read something like: Dual monitor support or DVI + DVI or DVI + VGA or VGA + VGA something like that. 2 major things to look for when picking a video card: 1. The bus. PCIeX16 or PCIeX1 or PCI...

New Monitors, what is your preference

My recent favorite is the Samsung 23" LCD monitor. Viewsonic is a close second favorite. I have their 22", 23", 24". All look good. If you can, I would suggest a monitor that has the 1920 x 1080 for the 22" up. You can appreciate the added details on a monitor that size.

Lopsided CPU usage when running trading software?

Thank you for your quick response, rwk and EllisWyatt. That makes a lot of sense. I will work on getting Windows 7 64-bit. Any other additional comments will be appreciated.

Lopsided CPU usage when running trading software?

The following is taken from the System Properties window. The CPU type and total physical memory size were picked up correctly. (12GB). I don't know why it is listed as 2GB in the Windows Task Manager app.

Lopsided CPU usage when running trading software?

I have built my new custom computer using the processor: Intel i7 930 2.8GHz And I installed 12GB of memory. I like the new computer's performance in general. Quite a bit faster than my old one based on AMD Athlon 64 X2 (B) 4800+ 2.5 GHz. But I have 2 curiosity points about my new...

    Volume bar spikes skewing indicators

I have been observing this. It's an everyday occurrence. Somebody would throw out a huge price/volume report out there. I have been scratching my head. Does somebody do it on purpose to screw up some of the volume-based indicators such as OBV and market profile. I am sure no such number of...

newbie looking for virtual mentor/ mentors

I have a comment along the above. Shorting FAZ is really the same as longing FAS. At least on an intraday basis, the percentage swings are about the same, pretty much tick for tick. I have seen new traders love "low price" stocks. Because they think with limited capital they can buy or...

    Dual monitors from a notebook

Replying on my own post. A chance discover... this image flickering issue was just me. More precisely it's with a particular laptop. For some reason, this flickering issue persisted on the original laptop that I used. Recently I switched to a second laptop and tried the USB-VGA adapter...

Are old threads available for viewing?

Thank you byteme. I have not used ET's own search function until now after you mentioned it. I used to use Google to do my search but for some reasons Google did not find my old post that I was looking for. ET's own search function did. I will use it going forward. I am happy now. :)

    Routing orders to market markers

What trading platform are you using? (And which broker?) If you use a popular brokerage like TDAmeritrade, Scottrade, E-Trade and such, when you enter a "market" order they will send your order to the market maker associated with them. If you have a Direct Access trading platform, such as...

Are old threads available for viewing?

I just discovered that it seems EliteTrader has trimmed the size of each forum to only 8 pages. (I think I used to see many more pages than that.) e.g. the Hardware forum Is that so? Are my older posts available for searches/viewing? I couldn't seem to find some of my old posts on...

anyone have solution to extend desktop into 2 monitors from vga split out of laptop?

This does not seem to make sense to me. If a gadget is truly a "splitter", from its name it only splits out the same VGA (or perhaps DVI) signal from one set of cable into 2 sets of cables. The signal itself is the same. So the 2 monitors hooked up to this gadget would display the same image...

    about comouter

This has not been my experience. I bought a low-end HP SR5610F last year (processor Athlon 64 X2 (B) 4800+). I put in 3 PCI base EVGA cards (each support 2 monitors) to run a total of 6 monitors. The HP box only came with a 250W power supply. I had this run for over a year without any...
