    Day Trading is a pipedream.

I always believe that it is better to post and write something positive about what you are familiar with, what you are good at, what you are successful at. And avoid posting something negative about what you failed at or know very little about. For example, I traded options for a while but...

New Video Card : 6 Outputs

It is not about the actual price. It is about business justifications. If you need something for your business, no price is too expensive. Given all things equal (or about the same), businesses would seek for low-price alternatives. All these 6 video in one card, bordless monitors, nice...

    Big waste of bandwidth posts

Sorry... I didn't mean for the thread to be closed. It had some good discussions at the beginning. But it just more and more degenerated into wasteful chatters between 2 individuals who apparently have a lot of time. And it seems to be going with no end in sight. I don't know what the best...

    Big waste of bandwidth posts

I think this thread has turned into a big waste of bandwidth. 4-5 pages of meaningless dialogs between 2 posters on a Easter Sunday. http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=195210&perpage=6&pagenumber=18

New Video Card : 6 Outputs

At $500 a piece, this 6in1 card seems a bit expensive. The video card itself is almost half that of a mid-high end box. For trading (mostly 2D graphics), the alternative may be more economical. 3 x PCIeX16 cards for 6 mons, about $50 x 3 = $150

    Problem with PC

bronks: Glad that it worked out at the end. I have some experiences from the past getting fried circuit boards... Check all components that have mechnical parts - small fans on video cards and fans on the heat sink for your processor. Sometimes dusts get accumulated and the motors would...

    Problem with PC

Dealing with hardware issues takes a lot of swap and try. Looks like you have probably found the root cause. Bad memory stick?

    Problem with PC

Since you can't get into BIOS, it sounds like either the onboard video chip is hosed or the motherboard is hosed. It could also be the BIOS but not too likely from my experience. Your disk drive may still be good but it is not even getting to that point. Not sure what you can do without a...

Would I have been better off with a single or dual core rather than quad?

I have been using desktop PCs for over 30 years. I used to build my own in the mid 80s. With technology advancements, you are always dealing with 3 different components in computing that cause bottlenecks: CPU power memory I/O (either disk or the network) As the CPU get faster and...

Would I have been better off with a single or dual core rather than quad?

I have been running TradeStation on my new box that is based on Intel i7 930 for a couple of days now. I see 8 windows in my Task Manager Performance tab. (4 cores x hyperthreading). What I see most of the time is that only one of those windows is constantly about 10% to 20% busy. The other...

    Problem with PC

How did you get your screen display? I think you need to systematically trouble-shoot the problem. 1. When you power up, can you get into BIOS? (That's before booting the OS) 2. If so, can you boot the OS? 3. If so, can you run your application? When did you get that weird screen?

    Technical Analysis, Yo.

I think you (OP) have drawn the trendline incorrectly. Maybe you did so purposely to prove your point - which... is not all the obvious anyway. I do not see any point in your post, really. Anybody can pick something and say "see... trading by fundamental doesn't work", or "see... market...

My guess as to why traders fail

I have heard of Tim Sykes but did not follow him. Did he lose it all back? In trading?

My guess as to why traders fail

Jack: I think I understand what you said about the dominant move and non-dominant move. That makes sense. But I don't quite understand what's meant by vertical and horizontal orientation. Would you expand that? Vertical does it mean price? Horizontal does it mean time?

Lopsided CPU usage when running trading software?

I haven't tried running other apps. I used that box solely for running TradeStation (for charts). The most that I would run is MSPaint to capture some screenshots, not even browsing the Internet. I was "stunted" because it was the first time I dealt with 8 windows in TaskManager. :)

    Day Trading is a pipedream.

I have asked you before. I don't believe you have addressed the question. You kept emphasizing "Consistently". In your mind, what is your definition of "consistently". It is a very simple, direct question. No need to beat around the bushes. How long do you think someone becomes...

    Day Trading is a pipedream.

Your last post is very well written. I agree with you pairsarbtooo. Given the OP's ignorance, I don't think anybody would blame you for losing table manner. :p

Lopsided CPU usage when running trading software?

Thanks WinstonTJ and all you guys for the additional info. On my existing HP (running Vista Home), it has 3GB of RAM and it does show 3GB in the OS. I am planning on upgrading to Win7 premium 64-bit this weekend. Will report back what I get afterwards.

    Fas Faz?

FAS was at $12 during the March low 2009. (Reverse-split adjusted) It is at 800% a little over a year. Did I miss something? Do they charge you something for holding it overnight? - because the theory of shorting equal amount of FAS and FAZ and hold long term does not seem to make money...

New Monitors, what is your preference

No. It has 3 PCIeX16, 2 PCI and 1 PCIeX1. I am going to try putting on my old PCI video cards in there. I hope that it will work to have 10-mon total. Will report later.
