Can you have more than 3 PCIe X16 slots on a motherboard?

I am used to the dual cards from PNY Technologies. Nowadays you can pick one up (e.g. 8400 GS) at $60. So it's about $30 per monitor. From what I have seen, those quad cards are something like $400-$500. (Which makes $100 per monitor supported). I can't imagine how much the 6-head and...

New Dell Setup - Is it overpriced ?

I am wondering why that Dell PC would cost $3,000. Per this page, with the discount it only came up to only $1,099. Granted the config is slightly different (but same processor). Shouldn't be 3 times the price...

    Working on Consistent Profitability

tlow, GatlingGun, NoDoji, WentFishing: RE: 8/27/10 Friday's sudden drop on ES FWIW, here are my observations, and some suggestions. It might work out as a good trade if you are willing to take the risks. 1. On an intraday basis, a sudden huge drop in ES often trigger a big bounce...

    Powerful laptop

Thanks for the tips RN. I did that work around (first one). Actually I deleted it opted not to have it. I don't really need it. Playing 5.1 on my laptop is not my priority. Trading is. And I am using a NetGear USB wifi instead of the onboard one. I will try out your sugguestion on the...

    Working on Consistent Profitability

No. Pros don't use TOS. :) Just kidding. Can't say anything for certain these days. There probably are million dollar big traders using TDAmeritrade. I agree that today was a slow burn. Makes it a bit hard. Or requires a lot of conviction.

Can you have more than 3 PCIe X16 slots on a motherboard?

It may be hard to answer that question unless you do a side-by-side comparison of the 2 boxes. When I shopped around, I think the price difference between the i5 boxes and i7 boxes was about $300 or so. The list price difference between the 2 CPU chips is only $100. But of course the MoBo...

Can you have more than 3 PCIe X16 slots on a motherboard?

You are right. I think I should have rewritten my statement as: If you have multiple SLI capable video cards, you want to use the SLI feature, but he MoBo doesn't support SLI, then it won't work. What I was getting at: it takes two to tangle. Both the video card and the motherboard.

    Powerful laptop

I can tell you what I recently bought (May 2010): HP dv8t 1100 laptop, i7-720Q Quad Core 1.6GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB disk, 18.4" screen (just DVD RW, no Blu-Ray). $1274 + tax from HP direct. What I like: - Fast. It is among the top models for laptop that I can find. I need a faster...

    Six 22" monitor setup

Thanks for the kind words LEAPup. They made me flush. :) Scataphagos and Sunshine and a few others are the real experts. But I will not refuse free beers! Ha! j/k. What I found was the the hardware guys working at the stores are not up to par with what we need for trading. Most...

Can you have more than 3 PCIe X16 slots on a motherboard?

pyro: You are in good hands. Scataphagos knows a lot more about video and hardware than I do. I don't use my P6T for its SLI technology at all. I only want simple 2D charting stuff on my computer. If you only use your box for trading (2D charts) and not "also" use it for 3D high end...

Can you have more than 3 PCIe X16 slots on a motherboard?

Thanks for all your responses guys. mgookin: No it was not my presumption. I realize that there are quads and also 6 video per card. I also know that they are quite a bit higher price (on per display basis) than a dual card. Currently I have 3 PNY dual cards on PCIe X16 and I certainly...

Can you have more than 3 PCIe X16 slots on a motherboard?

I have an i7-930 processor. Currently my motherboard (Asus P6T) has 3 x PCIe x16 slots and I am driving 6 monitors with it. (Another 2 via USB). There are 2 PCI slots and 1 PCIe X1 but I couldn't find a good, inexpensive video card to take those slots and still work in Windows 7. Is there...

    Six 22" monitor setup

The price looks very good and everything... very similar to the box I built recently. The only thing to watch out for: Available Expansion Slots: 1 PCI; 2 PCI-E x1 May be harder to get the video cards right with this config to drive 6 mons.

    Six 22" monitor setup

I have the most irregular monitor layout setups. So thick bezel thin bezel doesn't mean anything to me. And I don't have any chart that crosses monitor boundaries. :) (And I don't use multiple monitor fixtures either...)

    Six 22" monitor setup

The product looks great. But the price tag seems very high. List price $5332. You can get one for $3511. (buy.com) Hmmm.... 6 x 23" mon. You can get one for under $300. Bargain if ~$200. $1200 - $1800. A hex stand. Maybe $500. That's a total of: $1700 - $2300
