Haven't you gotten enough boxes already??? :D Is this your Dell #7 or something? :)

Build Your Own - Step by Step ( i7 2600k)

Thanks for the tip on arrow marks. I might have missed them. As for sharing disks... It seems that physically unplugging/plugging drives (if done on a daily basis) may be tiring. Perhaps a network-based file sharing (perhaps with sync feature) program running on all computers?

Build Your Own - Step by Step ( i7 2600k)

The only complaint I have on this is: I couldn't tell which way the fan blows. Maybe someone can point up what I have overlooked. I don't have a test lab set up. The power supply will not come on unless I hook up the 22-pin/24-pin connector to the motherboard and the main power is...

What is the idea behind having a hot swap rack?

Build Your Own - Step by Step ( i7 2600k)

Good work Tiki! I am using a similar CPU heat sink from Cooler Master. But not the same model. I like it. Easy to install. Does the job. Not too expensive.

    Building a new rig

P.S. perhaps start a new thread with your new build based on i7-2600k? Would make it easier for future searches.

    Building a new rig

It looks like to match that design, the power supply itself needs to blow air through from the front to the back. Many power supplies that I have seen, and your OCZ 800W seems to be of that design too, sucks air from the back of the chassis and blows to the side (towards the motherboard where...

I use Antec 300. Check to see if it works with your motherboard.

    USB-to-DVI adapter that supports 1920 x 1080 resolution

Did you mean Tritton "UV200"? If so... I am using a couple of them in Win 7.

What's the best way to organize all your trading notes?

Call me paranoid but I don't believe in the "cloud" approach of storing your own data/notes in some servers, especially when unencrypted, just to access it online. I think evernote and Google blog would be in this catagory. I use Microsoft Office (which includes OneNotes) and store all files...

    Building a new rig

I would suggest to go with where the wind blows. Currently the wind is in favor of Intel processors. Pick near the top of the line i7-2600k ($320). Or the i5-2500k that is pretty good too. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-2600K+%40+3.40GHz Find an ASUS motherboard...

    "Budget" build gone wrong

I think we had read it wrong, Scat. $4900 is all inclusive for his turn-key system. 8 monitors, can be as high as $300 each = $2400 1 monitor stand, can be $500 to $700. that's $3100 The remaining $1800 would be for the box's hardware, OS, video cards and the expert labor to put them...

    "Budget" build gone wrong

Really? Does that $4900 include 8 monitors and the monitor stand? I remember buying parts came up to around $1200 - $1300 or so. With Windows OS add another $200. You know that if you buy the parts from Fry's (and I checked... they have stores in New York), you can have them assemble the...

    USB-to-DVI adapter that supports 1920 x 1080 resolution

Dunno. Can't say until I have tried it. Most of these adapters work equally well. But the ones that don't support higher resolutions as they advertise... you notice right away.

Seriously... A lot of new boxes using Intel i7 second generation processor have exceeded that CPU performance.

    How much RAM?

Take advantage of the low RAM prices these days. You should be fine with 6GB - 8GB. Anything higher you should investigate and see if your trading apps can use the additional RAM or else it is just a waste.

    "Budget" build gone wrong

NVS 290 and 300 are dual-head cards. To support 8 monitors you need to have 4 of them. Thus 4 x PCIe X16 slots on the box. You are back to the original dilemma.

    For multiple monitor users

Ha! I know you didn't post this in the hardware forum... but it got bounced back to the hardware forum just the same! :) All I want to say is nobody needs to justify to no one. If having multiple monitors can help you, just do it. If you can do everything with one screen, good for you.
