    4 ports @: 2560x1600 @ 60Hz

I have used only 2 makes: PNY Technologies http://www3.pny.com/Categories/GeForceGraphics.aspx?Category_ID=13 EVGA http://www.evga.com/products/featured.asp These are low cost alternatives readily available at hardware stores like Fry's. They have many dual-monitor models, but I have...

Recommendations for 6 screen computer system? DigitalTigers or Naplestech reviews?

I have not used Apple for a long time. Since the Apple II+. This note brought in some interesting thoughts. I looked into the "dual Nehalem" setup. Basically it is a dual CPU setup. Should I assume that having dual CPU, the performance will be doubled? (May be not quite 200%, but maybe...

    Building your own trading computer

The cost comparison is based on buying brand new parts and assembling everything to build a new box. Of course if we can reuse old parts from an older computer, or catch some "fire sales" boxes and just to plug in a new processor, the cost saving can be nice. These days the functioning life...

    Building your own trading computer

At $4691, I would say probably. You need to do some homework yourself to figure it out. I give you a base line: Mine was about $1200. The processor: their i7 980, about $700 higher than my i7 930 The DVD: they use a bluray, may be $200 more Windows-7: add $200 Memory...

    Building your own trading computer

You listed your points very well Bryan. I think Dells are good boxes. I had used some in my last company but I have never owned one personally. I have some HPs and e-Machines. HPs are nice (the desktop) and I like them. But I bought a lemon HP laptop. Manufacturers locking down on...

    Building your own trading computer

Oh, come on TraderZones. :) This is very different from building your own car. Building your own car requires special tools (a garage, wrenches, engine haul, jacks, etc..). TV? It will cost you more just to buy the plasma glass than the whole TV. But it is really not that hard to...

    Building your own trading computer

I have stated that before, and should emphasize it once again. Building It Yourself will most likely cost more. There is no doubt about it. It is the "economy of scale" principle. Building your own car from parts would most likely cost more than buying a ready-made model from the...

    Alternate Internet Connection

Is Sprint PCS service available at the lake house? I think it's been mentioned before: Sprint Air Card http://www.sprint.com/business/products/phones/aircard580_connectionCards.html I have not used it because I don't have such a need. But may be worth looking into.

New Video Card : 6 Outputs

See... this is exactly what I was talking about. There are always these yahoos who have nothing to contribute to the topic at hand but to smartass other people. Like you know me. I bet that your 9991 posts are 95% trash.

    Building your own trading computer

About a week ago I had built a new computer from parts. I had received a few PMs on the details so let me just jot down my experiences here for those who are interested. My need: I had mentioned in this thread: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=194596 2 of my...

Quotes from Myshkin: >>> don't tell me you built one computer to feed your 20 monitors? No I don't think I have ever eluded to that. I drive 20 monitors from 4 different computers. 3 desktops (6 monitors each) and 1 laptop (2 external monitors). Plus the laptop itself, I have 21...

    Is there an indicator ...

You should be able to use MACD. By definition, MACD plots the difference between 2 exponential moving averages (default to 12 and 26). Plus adding a moving average to the plot to give you the signal line. http://www.investopedia.com/terms/m/macd.asp What you do is set the fast MA to 1...

Filing tax return as Trader Status and Mark to Market Election

Do you think you have passed the 2 tests as outlined in the IRS publication on trader status? Judging from your activities you look like a clear-cut trader not an investor. Part-time/full-time shouldn't be an issue because anybody who is taking a full salary (getting a W2 from a "day" job)...

Why do you need to know why?

We who look at charts to trade know the effect but typically not the cause of a move. And knowing the cause, if it is even knowable, does not make any difference. Market goes up, market goes down. I trade it just the same and have no need to spend time to learn "why".

Recommendations for 6 screen computer system? DigitalTigers or Naplestech reviews?

Recently I had built one computer from parts myself. Intel i7 930 processor, 12GB RAM. About $1200 (not including Windows OS). On top of that add 3 PCIeX16 graphic cards to drive 6 monitors. Each card was about $50. It is not that difficult to put one together. But if you want to buy...

New Video Card : 6 Outputs

No that was not what I was saying at all. Personally I have over 20 monitors in my trading room. http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=2727114#post2727114 But... and maybe I was overly sensitive, it seems to me that you were poking fun at those who want to look at more...

    Day Trading is a pipedream.

This is a free country. This is an open forum. You can freely express your opinion. The issue is some people fantasizing themselves as authority figures based on their own experiences in a subject that they know very little about. "Just in case anyone has any doubts".
