Multiple monitors-USB vs. DVI vs. HDMI

I use the exact same model from IOGear. Works very well. I agree with upthread that a card sitting on the motherboard (PCIx or PCI) would give you the best through put. Only if you don't have enough empty slots or if you are on a laptop would you want to resolve to use the external...

    Vote people off the island

Thanks for starting this thread mgookin! What you stated is my feeling exactly. There are many "self important" people on this forum. They don't have much (read "zero") value to add to the topic at hand but feel the need to add their comments whose only purpose is to put other people down...

    1) Multicharts Lifetime License + IB vs 2) TradeStation

Thanks for the info you guys shared in this thread. I have been using TradeStation for about 2 years and I like it. There are features that I wish TS would provide but doesn't (yet). For example, I can develop an indicator to display some texts on my charts. But I cannot set the text font...

    Estimated Taxes questions

I don't know the answer to this. But I think while you may not owe any taxes but you are liable to penalties. Check with your CPA perhaps.

Daytrading quickly becomes a bullsh*t job, and as such people justify it?

And who can motivate him to do that?

    Estimated Taxes questions

IRS has an odd-ball schedule: Apr 15, Jun 15, Sep 15 and Jan 15 (or Jan 18 in 2011 - weekend stuff). For Q2 and Q3 you actually have to make an estimate before the quarters are closed out.

    Estimated Taxes questions

Yes I know many traders are tempted for the same idea. You figure that the worst case is probably 24%/year to pay on the interest. That if you can use the money to trade, you may get a lot higher on the return. But there is a big risk behind that thought. It is assuming you can make good...

    Estimated Taxes questions

Caveat: I believe the followings are correct to my knowledge but you should check with your CPA. You pay estimated tax by 4 installments: Q1 2010: due Apr 15, 2010 Q2 2010: due Jun 15, 2010 Q3 2010: due Sep 15, 2010 Q4 2010: due Jan 18, 2011 http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040es.pdf...

    Monitor Resolution - 1680x1050 or 1920x1080?

The price of this item seems a little high. 23" for $269 new. I picked up a few Samsung 24" monitors (and they are great) from Fry's for about $220 or something like that on sale... and that was the latter part of last year. I would imagine the price of these monitors would have come down...

Lopsided CPU usage when running trading software?

I want to again thank all of you who commented in this thread. I have just upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit on this new box and I am seeing all 12GB of memory. In addition, it seems that the workload of starting TradeStation was more evenly spread among the different cores. (See attached). I...

Tradestation in VMWare; multiple desktops, unity, and Ubuntu?

I am interested in this discussion too. I am using TradeStation on an Intel quad core machine. The TradeStation software, or the "orchart.exe" process specifically, is only executed on 1 core and 1 hyperthread. Sometimes even though that core/hyperthread is very busy, the other cores just...

    New System Build Questions.

My comments are as follows: The first item seems to be a 4-port video card. The second item seems to be a video card also. How many monitors are you planning to drive? From my experience, mixing video cards from 2 different makes may present compatibility issues and should be avoided...

    Building your own trading computer

If you were making a point in stating 12GB memory is a waste on a trading computer, why didn't you say so directly and to the point. Even that would be a minor factor in building a new PC. I may have overspent $150 on buying memory. Big deal. This thread is about showing someone it is easy...

    Building your own trading computer

It maybe my bad assumption... that "more RAM is always better". I decided on the spot at the store to go with 12GB anyway because: 1. Memory is not that expensive (to me anyway) these days. $150 for 6GB. I decided to ramp up the ram (pon intended) to see how it goes. 2. I can always...

    Building your own trading computer

Be honest I don't understand the purpose of the last post at all. People assumed too much. And behave in a way that they wouldn't do to a stranger just met face to face in a cocktail party. "In 6 months when the market is done with you..." I have been making a comfortable living...

    Wash Rule

I am a bit confused on your terminology. Let me just follow IRS' terminology. They see 2 types of tax filers: Trader, versus Investor. When you say "non professional trader" I take it that you meant Investor? Because you can be a trader, and have "trader status" - not bound by the wash...

Any tips for trading from hotels while traveling?

Not sure what you are looking for. I do that from time to time (while on vacation. ;-) ). In major cities in the USA and Asian countries (I have done that) shouldn't be an issue. Internet access is quite common. But... If the provide a wireline access Internet (a RJ45 cable in the room)...

    Building your own trading computer

I didn't spend much time shopping. And I hate buying things on-line if I don't have to. I suppose I can use something like this: http://biz.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4631398&CatId=2651 Price $1109 HP xw6600 RB472UT Workstation PC (Open Box)...
