No need to manually draw them. You use TradeStation, right? There are script to draw them automatically. (all that you mentioned) JP's indicators... tried them for a month. I wouldn't say bad thing about them but they didn't work for me. I saw no significant difference between his...

For someone who just started out, I would recommend getting familiar with how to trade using the daily pivot numbers (S2, S1, PP, R1, R2) to hold a longer view intraday to trade rather than doing a bar-by-bay analysis on 1-minute bars. It should be easier.

    Trading in Taipei

Is there any reason why you would not or cannot trade where you are staying? No Internet access? How about trading in a hotel room? Cost concern? (Because you already get a place to stay.)? Just some ideas: 1) How about trading on a laptop at a Starbucks Coffee? Most of them have...

    Market Maker costs...

What did you mean by "inventory holding costs"? Is it the same as opportunity cost? Money that otherwise can be invested in bonds or the likes in earning interest?

I don't think Al Brook's bar-by-bar approach is good for anything less than 5-minute bars (or even 15-minute bars). The main reason is time. We don't have enough time to analyze each 1-min bar (or sub-minute tick bars). The market just zoom by you when you are measuring this and measuring...

    Fractal nature of stock market...

Xspurt: What you said is intriguing. Would you explain more the dimension of Space Time in the context of a price chart? I am only familiar with this term in physics.

PC Fan Noise...can I leave case open?

When I buy a PC (e.g. HP/Compaq), I like to take off the side panel and keep it that way. For one thing, I like to tinker with plugging in/out different cards. Opened chassis should make it cooler. Of course this doesn't pass the "neat" factor for most people. But my desktops are under the...

    Dual monitors from a notebook

Thanks for sharing your experience Scataphagos. You have given me a great tip. All I need to do is to swap some cables... I can do it in a jiff. I am tired of having to go to the Control Panel and fight with Windows every time after a reboot. It is my impression that the 1-2-3-4-5-6...

    Dual monitors from a notebook

Well... I have a different view. The max screen you can have on a laptop these days is 18-inch. About 3 inch more of screen real estate than a smaller laptop. With an add-on monitor, you can have up to 23 to 24-inch of additional screen real estate. I always travel with an external LCD...

    Dual monitors from a notebook

I have been using the 2 SIIG USB-to-VGA adapters for a couple of weeks now. They seem to work well in general. For $40, I like this solution. Upthread there was a question about the possible display lag. I did an experiment: I run 2 TradeStation desktops with identical chart displays...

    Building your own trading computer

Thanks for your comments Scataphagos. In my case the computer "freeze" was CPU busy. Not the network throughput. Trust me. I have been a computer programmer and technical support for over 20 years. I have a CCNA and a MCSE. I know a little bit about computers and networks. They are...

    Matcha's Dow E-mini Journal

It's the mirror trick again. (Measured moves) AAPL peaked at 265.00 yesterday. Day support was around 261. When the market sold off and this support was broken... 4.00 down would make it 257. Plus: AAPL's S2 was at 256.87. (Those are daily pivot numbers). 265.00 early in the...

I trade mostly equities (AAPL, GS, FAS, SPY). I use 42 tick charts on AAPL and FAS only and 32 tick for GS. For SPY and ES futures 42 tick is too small. I use 330 tick on SPY. Only 1min on ES. One needs to do some trial and error to locate the sweet spots.

Reversal trades are highly risky. Low probability? I wouldn't say low probability but highly risky and high profitability if you make it out. The crucial part if knowing when to get in. Take a look at AAPL yesterday 5/13/10. It plunged down to $256.40 from $260 in minutes... but bounced to...

I use TradeStation too. For my charting but not for order execution. They are cool... when they are available. :) On Thursday 5/8/10... the market crashed. All my TradeStation charts crapped. At the most crucial moments. Something wrong on the TradeStation's server side. Overloaded...

    Building your own trading computer

Not sure why you would make such a generalized statement. I don't know about others. For me I stated very clearly that I started with a need. My old computer was not fast enough to handle my charting need when I started using a more sophisticated indicator on TradeStation. The computer...
