So Today Was the Lamest Day Ever

Individual stocks seemed to move better than the indices. e.g. AMZN moved $4.00 from 180.50 low to 184.50. Quite tradable.

i7-900s vs Xeon processors - identical?

What is beyond i7-950? Are they coming up with something faster but priced for retails? (like no more than $300)? Same socket?

pci dual monitor card for dell t3500

Quoting wiki: DMS-59 is a 59-pin electrical connector generally used for computer video cards. It provides two DVI or VGA outputs on a single connector. An adapter cable is needed for conversion from DMS-59 to DVI or VGA, and different types of adapter cables exist...

Use a computer as a phone

Comcast has been wanting to sell me their Xfinity package - Cable TV, cable modem (internet), and VoIP phone - all in one. To replace my AT&T dial tone. Everytime, I stop them cold. No way! With the crappy reliability from Comcast... everytime my cable signal gets interrupted (no internet)...

    my new system

marc: 1. Using a SSD will make your system run faster only if you do a lot of disk I/O. My guess is it won't help you. Only a faster processor can make your system faster. 2. The item cited has a processor of "AMD Phenom II X4 965". Passmark score is 4266. By comparison the Passmark...

would you book online a travel to outer space?

The second mouse gets the cheese. I would wait until there is a Challenger plus a Columbia type of incidents to wake up the design engineers before signing on for outer space travel in the vehicle they are developing. Sorry... technology advancements are paved with blood. It's one thing if...

    Pictures of your trading stations

    The current "wide" monitors are typically 16:9 (width:height). So this is a matter of arithmatics. 16" wide, 9" high will make the diagonal = sqrt(256+81) = 18.36" So 24" diagonal should have a width of about = 24 * 16 / 18.36 = 20.9". My Acer 24" monitor P241W is 20.5" wide.

GTS 250 video cards, need single slot instead

Just a thought on an alternative: You already have 2 cards (4 mons) working. It was adding the 3rd card that seemed to give you problems. - from what I read so far. Correct me if this is incorrect. So now you are thinking of changing all cards to 3 identical cards, $79 x 3 = $240 or so...

    Requesting Help Before Ordering Hardware!

Holy Cow! One day away from the Hardware forum and a thread with 11-page replies! I thought I'd missed out on a controversy! :D The above config seems very good at the price indicated. I bought parts to build my own box and had spent just about that much, and without the 3-year warranty...

    trading from laptop internationally

I have a HP dv8t 1100 (i7 720QM), 18" screen. I enjoy the faster speed and bigger screen. Not just for trading but also just about everything I do on a laptop - surf the net, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc.. But HP laptops are not as reliable. I got mine in May 2010 and had sent for a repair...

Soon my dream trading PC will be here !!

Thanks for the heads up. On second look I now noticed it has LED screen instead of LCD screen. Brighter for sure. How LED works under sunlight I have not experienced. Typically the brightness of sunlight creates a contrast that is quite difficult to overcome.

Soon my dream trading PC will be here !!

List price $3719. With the discount and coupon... $2299. Interesting. You can buy an i7-720QM quad core laptop at about $1200 or under today. That's what I have: HP dv8t 1100 laptop. I suspect that the half-width folded screen is not all that useful. Personally I prefer an external 23"...

    Building My Trading Computer

With the Windows display utility, if you can see all your monitors in Windows, you should be able to stack them like this - e.g. in a 3 x 2 grid: (example shown is in Windows 7):

    Building My Trading Computer

In Microsoft Windows OS, you can use the "Display" utility ("Adjusting Screen Resolution") to adjust the monitor placements. The NVidia driver software itself (which enables you to turn on/off the second/third/etc display) can't handle the stacking. I believe that is because it is an operating...

Are you running some version of Windows OS? If so... did you use the Windows' software to stack the monitors? Do you see all 3 monitors (or 4) in Windows' "Adjust Screen Resolution" utility?
