    "Budget" build gone wrong

All a matter of demand. Perhaps trading and extreme gaming are the only apps that would use 6+ monitors on a single computer?

    "Budget" build gone wrong

Or perhaps a loose screw somewhere... LOL :D Now that really is a "budget" build gone wrong! :D I think you will be okay with a PS around 700W-800W. Especially with the i7-2600k instead of i7-930/950. Liquid cooling probably is not needed. Remember more components = more potential...

Outlet or not outlet... have you finalized your video requirements? Still 6 monitors? Per T3500 specs sheet: ===== Video Card Support for 2 PCI Express x16 Gen 2 graphics cards up to 150 watts (total) including: (.....) All graphics cards support dual monitor configurations. =====...

    "Budget" build gone wrong

I have 2 tried-and-true configurations which are in use today (model T: over 1 year; model U: about 4 months) with no issues: Model T: - ASUS P6T motherboard (3 x PCIe X16 slots, can drive 6 monitors with 3 PNY 8400 GS dual-head cards) - Intel i7-930 processor - 6GB of RAM...

    "Budget" build gone wrong

This one has 6. But I found I only can do up to 4 dual-cards. http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=195662&perpage=6&pagenumber=21 There are other makes/models that have 6 to 7 PCIe X16 slots. Maybe they work better.

    "Budget" build gone wrong

I think maybe you can save that phone call. From what I have seen... HP make or others... most ready-made boxes these days only offer 1 PCIe X16 expansion slots. You are lucky if you find two. As if they have everything you need in their design. That's what prompted me to build my own...

Techis please Help. Want to connect TV to my Laptop.

Possible without any additional hardware if: 1) Your laptop has a HDMI out. (Most new laptops do these days) 2) Your TV has a HDMI in. (Most TV do these days) Check your laptop and TV. If you don't see the HDMI port on either device, then need to figure out other connection methods.

    "Budget" build gone wrong

Six monitors??? I thought you have been talking about 2 external monitors on a laptop. All of a sudden, it's 6 monitors? What are you gonna do with so many monitors??? LOL :D So... what was your "gone wrong" question? Regarding the above box... I don't get it... I am a HP guy...

Freezing up- Computer problem...Any advice ?

Computer freezes can happen due to overheating of CPU. You said you have been using this computer for 4 years and just re-installed the OS. Have you check the CPU's heat sink and fans to the heat sink and fans to the computer chassis. Especially the CPU's heat sink. If dust accumulated up...

Best island or place to trade from?

Hawaii was mentioned upthread. I thought about Hawaii a lot. To "retire" to and trade from. But the thought of getting up at 3:00 am 5 days a week is a bit scary. I am a nightowl. Starting the trading day at 9:30 pm in Thailand into 4 pm is fine by me. Getting up at 3:00 am is a totally...

    Building a home-made out-of-shelf SuperComputer.

I may be wrong but it looks like that beowulf cluster only runs in linux. Does your back-testing/optimizing software run under linux?

Auto-hide the taskbar in Win 7

This is all is needed supposedly. Sometimes, the taskbar stays un-hidden or re-appears because Windows received some kind of alert notifications from apps that require user attention. Usually it will high-light the requesting apps. (Or gives you a bubble text). Find the offending app...

Question about Spec of New PC

To add: Many seemed to consider "custom-order to specified configuration" from a box maker as "building one's own PC". No assembly required. Dunno... to me "building one's own PC" would mean ordering components, rolling up one's sleeves and at least assembling the PC from parts...

Question about Spec of New PC

How good is a dual CPU motherboard when Intel came up with their Sandy Bridge chips (marketed as "second generation" i3 i5 i7)... basically pretty much boosted the speed by >50% of their predecessors and selling for about the same price (around $300)? In just one year's time... i7-930...

Found a "trading laptop" need advice

HDMI is a digital interface. Signal-wise it is equivalent to the DVI standard, plus the 2 audio channels. So if you use DVI cable or VGA cable and you want to play audio on the built-in speakers on the monitor, you would need to hook up the extra stereo audio cable. If you use HDMI cable...

Found a "trading laptop" need advice

The video showed an Intel Core i7 740QM processor, which has a passmark score of 3571. Which is very nice (speedwise) for a laptop. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7+740QM+%40+1.73GHz However... I would (but I haven't) shop around for any new laptops that feature the...

Question about Spec of New PC

I agree with jprad. I have built 3 desktop computers (i7 930 processors) so far with just off-the-shelf components at Fry's. No problem with any of them so far. 2 of are more than 1 year now. Unfortunately I felt that I couldn't build a laptop myself. I bought 3 laptops from HP so far...

    Laptop and two LCD screens

Well you can tally them up LEAPup. Say... 1. Laptop: $800 - $1200 depending on makes and models. 2. The laptop can drive 1 external monitor with the built-in VGA port (or DisplayPort, or HDMI port). 3. One USB-to-VGA (or USB-to-DVI) adapter. About $50 to $80 depending on makes and...
