    TWTR <-- Dead Meat

It's not about "right" or "wrong," as these are subjective--your "right" may be my "wrong." It's about Freedom of Speech... and allowing all voices to be heard.

    TWTR <-- Dead Meat

Put the shoe on the other foot: what if Obama was banned? Hillary? BLM? #metoo? Ghandi? Jesus? <insert your favorite voice here>? What would you think, and how would you feel, if that voice mportant to you was gagged and silenced? It cannot be dismissed with a wave of the hand, citing their...

    TWTR <-- Dead Meat

True... I didn't leave MySpace or Friendster either... I just don't have any confidence therein. The next generation of Social Media is upon us: one of decentralized content owned by the publisher. No surprise they triggered the uptick rule today.

    TWTR <-- Dead Meat

Nice work, TWTR Brass... way to alienate 74,000,000 American voters overnight! Unsurprisingly, lots of whispers of moving to a new platform that can't be censored so easily. Twitter's censorship of the President of the USA was an egregious offense--a real slap in the face. Twitter was a pillar...

Cross Trades, Price Discovery, and Marking to Market

Imagine a big fat quant hedge fund named Amalgamated Bureaucratic Conglomerates (ABC) with hundreds of fund managers. They're all trading U.S. equities. Why can't they all just trade with each other instead of going to the exchange; that is, "cross" trades within the firm? Example: Alfred...

Anyone think that we'll see an interest rate hike in 2021?

Anyone think that we'll see an interest rate hike in 2021?

Nah.. they lowered rates to stoke the T economy for the election. The virus was just a façade.

Anyone think that we'll see an interest rate hike in 2021?

I'm no Keynesian, but as I understand it, a higher interest rate makes dollars "more expensive." It discourages borrowing, and thus there is less money in circulation. This dampens inflation as the money supply decreases.

Anyone think that we'll see an interest rate hike in 2021?

I don't want to mention the "I" word, but I do see things getting more expensive...

    Reading financial reports

    - This practice is done by every company out there. - Rarely if ever do they get caught. They're really not doing anything "wrong," just maximizing every tax writeoff and loophole. They have the $$ for the best accountants. - It's pretty easy to manipulate tax burden; e.g.: Hire/fire...

    Reading financial reports

A company is taxed on their profits. If they declare a loss their tax burden is significantly decreased... and may be zero. That's why you see stories like below; where a multi-billion dollar company like General Electric paid no taxes at all in 2010. The law states that a company can only...

    The "Tech Wreck"

It's just a matter of time... tech is over-valued. AAPL at USD2T? Some simple math: if we assume that an iPhone costs USD1000, and divide: 2,000,000,000,000 ---------------- = 2,000,000,000 1000 That's 2B iphones!! Further assume that 2/3rds of AAPLs revenue comes from iphones...

C++ concurrent data structure for fast retrieval

What data structure to hold the orders?

C++ concurrent data structure for fast retrieval

Fully agree. Locking would crush my performance. Yes, I was thinking of offloading this to a separate process/core with an absolute minimum of data sent across a socket. Yeah no ASIC or FPGA just yet. For now it's C++, C, and perhaps a little assembler in hotspots. What can't I offload this...

C++ concurrent data structure for fast retrieval

Oh yeah? How do you reverse a string?

C++ concurrent data structure for fast retrieval

I have a requirement to create and maintain a ledger of orders. Thousands and of them, with many updates per second. It will operate in a high-speed environment: currently in single-digit mcs range; I'd like to see it in high nanos. - Must be thread-safe - Multiple threads and processes will be...
