Why are there illegal option orders in the orderbook?

Lol, ok... you are entitled to your opinion.

Why are there illegal option orders in the orderbook?

Just go to the dictionary... most definitions will start with something like "intentional perversion of truth in order to ___". Unfortunately, in the subjective theory of value, there is no "true" price. So, if you think there is a "fraud" in your mind... then just don't bother participating...

Why are there illegal option orders in the orderbook?

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree earth. It's you who doesn't understand that if two parties both agree to a trade willingly... then there is no fraud. Before that, whatever the bid/ask, it's just a negotiation.

Why are there illegal option orders in the orderbook?

I've seen this confusion a million times. IMHO it's caused by subscribing to the labor theory of value instead of the (better suited) subjective theory of value.

Why are there illegal option orders in the orderbook?

Presumably because that's where people think there's a bigger information asymmetry and more profit to be made by fishing in the middle. But, as seems to be the point of the entire thread, there are just some "dumb default" bid/asks which can be made to rest in the order-book for the sake of...

Why are there illegal option orders in the orderbook?

I know earth... but I'm pointing out that there's a contradiction in your thinking overall. If there's nothing wrong with what you suggest, why would there be anything "illegal" about the bid/ask spread? That said, I think it may just be that English isn't your native language. Perhaps the...

Why are there illegal option orders in the orderbook?

Lol... starts thread named "illegal option orders in the orderbook", asked about quote stuffing and replies "There is nothing unethical in this".

Why are there illegal option orders in the orderbook?

We're clearly doing things much differently.

Why are there illegal option orders in the orderbook?

You mean quote stuffing... not a great long-term practice. I think you'll eventually get nailed for doing that kind of thing. Hard to pull off at a retail level too. Not to mention, if you're not extremely careful, you might cross with someone who knows more than you. Better to just do an honest...

Why are there illegal option orders in the orderbook?

And what you do suggest as an alternative? I actually hesitate to use anything too avant-garde since I'm a pretty risk-averse sort of person. Plus, at the end of the day it is just a guess... basically. Ok, maybe a well-informed guess, but still. Not to mention, the data providers are doing...

Why are there illegal option orders in the orderbook?

Lol. I was just using a 90 day EWMA (a=0.94) like everyone else apparently, but switched to garch a while back... tough for me to say if it made a huge difference. I don't trade anything too close or too far from expiration though.

Why are there illegal option orders in the orderbook?

I don't trust closed-source software. Those pricing engines are all over the web, they could have been written by a cock-eyed half-wit, they're too slow to actually implement in a trading system. Sometimes I'll play with them for fun or just to double check something. They're good for messing...

Why are there illegal option orders in the orderbook?

Well get to it earth! Determine what you think the "correct" price is, calculate your IV and start printing some extra pocket change. Personally, I prefer to do it the other way around... I make an estimate of what the vol will be and then look at the price. I figure it's easier and since it's...

Why are there illegal option orders in the orderbook?

That's probably because people on the buy-side will be more interested in the ask and people on the sell-side will be more interested in the bid. I think it's important to remember that IV is, in a sense, a make believe number... it's trying to quantify expectations; of which there may be quite...

    dest eulogy thread

Yeah, but Des, ever since you've changed your privacy settings... your messages don't show up in your followers' news feeds. IDK if you (or many of the followers) are aware of that, but it's a bummer nonetheless and makes following somewhat pointless.

Useless Microsoft at it once again!

I thought the latest versions of Microsoft operating systems (since 10.x or so) basically were spyware/adware themselves. Is that even a question anymore? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13438446 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35787707 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34712640...

:-) True! Nonetheless... I prefer a full roster so every little bit helps IMHO.
