Gotta love ZERO RISK in the SP500 = $$$

Where do you guys get free EOD index data (S&P 500)? Yahoo? I'd like some stuff that I can download in Excel. I have access to futures data, but would like some index data as well which I'm currently not paying for and probably don't need either. Thanks. :)

Is it too late to become a daytrader at 30?

First tell us if you have succeed in day trading. Put bluntly: Are you rich from day trading?

    shell shocked

How about buying the day low and selling the day high or vice versa? You don't need to scalp ticks to qualify as a day trader. I think stress correlates with both frequency of trading, but most importantly the degree of discretion involved. If you plan the day in advance and have a sound...

the reason indicators don't work isn't because they're lagging

What you're really saying is that indicators don't work for YOU and that YOU haven't found any predictable value in using them. Most people are not able to predict based on price history alone either. An indicator is nothing more than an arithmetical calculation based on price history.

Is it too late to become a daytrader at 30?

Profitable day trading is far more profitable than buy and hold, but it is also not very likely he'll be able to get there. If you need 5000-10.000 hours of study to become a day trader with no guarantee that it'll turn out successful in the end - what's the opportunity cost here if he had...

Is it too late to become a daytrader at 30?

Most people who try fail and the few who don't fail are most likely not exceeding the performance of a simple buy and hold strategy. Further, I'd guess that most people trying this are above average in terms of intellect and ambitions. Not sure what your background is, but you're most likely...

Gotta love ZERO RISK in the SP500 = $$$

I think this thread is quite entertaining. Some of the claims here made me do a simply study this morning based on data I have access to. Looking at Open (09:30) prices in the e-mini S&P500 for 2018, I found the following: Average: 1.0 Median: 1.5 Average positive: 5.0 % positive: 59% Average...

Is it too late to become a daytrader at 30?

I would not recommend it. Don't listen to all the dreamers on ET who for some reason want you to think otherwise.

where is the volatility for spx?

39,50 point range today. Although there's been a few narrow range days lately, I'll say there's still good trading opportunities in the ES/SPX. There have for sure been periods in recent years that's been worse than what we're currently seeing. What I like with the ES is that it behaves...

Is this the return of tick scalping in the ES?!?!?!

Are you suggesting the markets are random...? The fact is that for the last 100 days we're closing above the middle of the range 70% + of the time. In fact, close to 40% of the time we're closing in the top of the range. On the contrary, closing at the bottom of the range happens only roughly...

Gotta love ZERO RISK in the SP500 = $$$

In all seriousness; how long do you people think this market continue going up? I had to check and couldn't believe this thread is over 10 years ago by now.

Is this the return of tick scalping in the ES?!?!?!

Why on earth would you 'tick scalp' a day like yesterday? Buy the open; sell the close. 15 easy points. :)

Developing IntraDay Strategies Using ATR for Risk

If you're trading the opening range, you need to consider the opening range only and not the range during other times of the day. As an example. I think you need more than simply an ATR of course, but it is of course an improvement beyond not using such measures in the first place. :)

Is chart trading dead? (At least when it comes to ES)

No, unless you're lucky. The market is closed tomorrow. I can tell you that with 100% certainty. :)

Is chart trading dead? (At least when it comes to ES)

What you're really saying is that you haven't found a high level of certainty and that you aren't extremely rich. There are certainly others who've become 'extremely rich' from trading, so I would reconsider what's actually possible and not in trading. How can there be any progress in trading...

Developing IntraDay Strategies Using ATR for Risk

A 24 hour ATR would be more or less useless. If anything, you should consider the ATR or whatever other measure during the exact time period you're interested in trading.

Is chart trading dead? (At least when it comes to ES)

Understandable. When I hear 'chart reading', I'm immediately thinking subjective, open to interpretation, making decisions on the fly, discretion, etc. I think charts are very valuable, but it might make sense to incorporate some hard rules, statistics and plan the trading in advance if one...

Is chart trading dead? (At least when it comes to ES)

Assuming that 'chart trading' worked in the first place - why would it be any different this year than prior years? Contraction of volatility is just part of the market cycle. Higher volatility might be easier for some since you might have a few stop outs and still be able to get a piece of the...
