Bot this one in my 401k a few months ago and foolishly dumped it, but it is more of a Jim Rogers type position - do your homework and let it sit for a few years.
It's up about 30% since then and gaining altitude.....
Back in now, shamefully
I really like this, and it's my biggest problem.
Found the use for taking profits early many years ago, trading long options.
But "the obvious" (I think) we were talking about here is another one.
There are many, once you become acclimated to greed and fear.
Just like flying. After awhile...
Sure, both in the positive and negative direction!
But if you are in the market to survive in the long run, it's not wise to expect 100% wins, which is the only way betting 50% each trade would make any sense. Even with "the obvious", you occasionally have to cut losses and reverse.
Directional prediction is fun but it's also extremely difficult. There are other high probability opportunities to provide a service to the market, and get paid
Not at all, sir. I use the M-word for the ones who are ready to see themselves as they are, and need to hear the truth. It describes people who are easily manipulated by others.
You may have found your own answer to providing a service the market will consistently pay for, and it may not be...
If this is actually a serious post and not troll bait, you already know the answer if you have lived through a few bear markets already. It is how the livestock are harvested. All that stuff in the public domain is there for a reason, and it aint charity.....
A useful debrief, and only raw seat time with real money is going to prepare a garden variety muppet to do the right thing when the hard right edge looks like this......
Did you know the only way to get an airplane out of a death spiral is to push the stick / yoke forward and make it go down...
I knew I had it when my account performance reversed.
I also knew I found it when I stopped looking outside, at a chart or news or fundamentals. It's like in boxing when you no longer fear getting punched, because you can parry, slip, cover your chin with shoulder, etc. and then you are free...
A whale in shallow water only has one possible tactic, since any movement will give him away. He must open his mouth and let the current sweep the little fishes right into his mouth....
Thank you very much for sharing your experiences.
I tried to leave the "obvious" contradiction in plain sight for you to discover......
And the "Obvious" myself, OP and redneck were talking about is not related to price itself, or its movement. But if I had to sum it up in one word...
Can't speak for Mr. Mcnoob but I'm definitely trading real money, and in small enough size not to hurt me financially if I screw up but just big enough to feel the greed and fear.
Sorry you are having trouble following your system. I had the same problem after developing a few of my own...
A very good description of how it looks when one is doing it successfully, but unless "the obvious" is known, those buy and sell points will become a superior trader's fat pitch.
One famous investor knows The Obvious, based on one of his quotes, and another quote he said was "I wait for the fat...
I'm no expert but most MA systems are trend followers, and MAs are lagging indicators. These can work very well for a small percentage of the time but then whipsaw you to madness during weirder market conditions, like now. It's normal, and the pro trend followers always trade their equity...
It is also a way of life. Ever see what happens when a bad marriage is finally put out of its misery (in the US or any western country)?
Depreciating assets can sometimes take half your net worth, and perhaps even half your soul when they are finally written off to zero.
