What is the limit to how many option contracts?

The answer to your fantasy can be found at the CBOE.com website. Do a search on "position limits". Then come back here and dream some more :)

Anyone know anything about these "balancepoint" things? (chart)

They should change the name of MACD to MAAN (Much Ado About Nothing) :)

Anyone know anything about these "balancepoint" things? (chart)

In education, balance point charts involve grade variance. I suppose in other disciplines as well. Have no clue if your charts involve variance. A novel thought - consider asking the person who originally posted the chart?

    Volatility Term Structure

Not necessarily because there are multiple influences on price. For ex, the near month decays faster and if both months have a similar increase in IV, the far month's price will gain more.

    Hedging 101 question

There are many choices and which one is best depends on what your outlook is, your time frame, how much you're willing to risk, etc. Good replies from AK100 and MTE. Other possibilities include selling part of the position, buying puts (maybe even delta neutral) and collaring the position...

Better options commissions -- TDAmeritrade or IB?

Due to a lot of good press here (superior option analytics, etc.), I opened a demo account at TOS 2 years ago. I have to sheepishly admit that I was overwhelmed and intimidated as I stumbled around blindly, getting nowhere. Quite frustrating! My intent was to use both, doing the bulk/even all...

Better options commissions -- TDAmeritrade or IB?

Point well taken but I think it's more than just account size. IMHO, shares/contracts traded is more imp't to them - unlike the Fool Service brokers who often get an annual account fee and get a monthly bump for AUM. I've transacted with far more brokers than I care to admit but only 3 in...

Better options commissions -- TDAmeritrade or IB?

C'mon man! You need to consider all aspects of these numbers before making a brokerage choice. Don't belittle the opportunities at TDAmeritrade. If you're a big shot with a million AUM, you can make $25 a month in yield at .03% APY using their cash sweep into FDIC insured accounts. How...

IB TWS - calculating win/loss and other measures

Look at IB's Portfolio Analyst (under Analytical Tools on the platform or under the Report Management section on the Account Management web page). I have no clue if it will satisfy your needs since I use a tax prep program that provides enough performance stats for me.

    Is micro scalping dead?

It's not a question of how big it is but how much you get to keep. People should trade what works for them.

    Is micro scalping dead?

I've experienced the same. In '08 and '09 I had great years where I netted 11 and 10 cts per 100 shares yet last year it was only 3 cts on 1/2 the volume. Obviously, '08 and '09 were unique years and I'm not confusing brains with a bear market :) . It's frustrating. The fear will return...

    ThinkorSwim - 1099-B

I use IB and while the trades reported in their Gain/Loss Summary Worksheet are accurate, their attempt to determine wash sales is feeble and is not to be trusted. They even provide a disclaimer at the end indicating that it's for informational purposes only and should be reviewed...

Better options commissions -- TDAmeritrade or IB?

Yes, there a a number of factors that should be considered when choosing a brokerage firm. However, since this was a specific question about TD Ameritrade versus IB, you should consider accurate details: TDA charges 5-7% more on margin borrowing than IB (depends on amount borrowed), IB...

Better options commissions -- TDAmeritrade or IB?

Is there some activity level required for waiving? Or do they just do it because you ask nicely? :)

Better options commissions -- TDAmeritrade or IB?

I have accounts at both. TDA charges $9.99 per transaction plus $ 0.75 per contract and $19.99 for assignment and exercise. The transaction fee is a killer since it makes scaling in and out unreasonably costly. IB is $0.25 to $1.00 per contract (even lower if you do size) with no...
