    Earnings Volatility Plays

Hey Beb. A number of things have been discussed in this chain, so it's hard to know what I'm talking about (g). But now, I'm not talking about double RC's. The point of this example/exercise was to get him to play with his software rather than asking tons of questions which could be more...

are options really ZERO SUM GAME ? i don't think so

HUH? If the company goes public and raises $10 million from its offering, who lost money on that transaction? If the stock rises $5, everyone owning shares made money. Where's the zero sum in that? Don't confuse investing and creating wealth with gambling's zero-sum game.

    Earnings Volatility Plays

You don't want to do this manually. Calculate your theoretical values. In your software, start off with a +10/-10/-10/+10 double whatever. As per previous example, you're shorting 10 each leg of the near month 50/55 strangle and buying 10 each leg of the next month 50/55 strangle. Since...

Gamma Scalping with Reverse Iron Butterfly

You get to ignore delta change on the short positions and then you get to ignore losses on the entire position as the underlying trends past those strikes? Good deal!

are options really ZERO SUM GAME ? i don't think so

I'm sorry but that is the wrong answer. John has only been using the system for 2.7833 years and is only a multi-millionaire. Please feel free to submit additional entries since you are now eligible for the consolation prize (an evening with Jon and Carl)

are options really ZERO SUM GAME ? i don't think so

When asked by Chanakya why he wrote calls on his stock, John replied that in just 15 minutes a day, he uses this simple, conservative method for online trading that is powerful enough to make a steady income every month with limited risk. He can profit: - no matter if the market moves...

are options really ZERO SUM GAME ? i don't think so

If you want to ignore several good explanations of why options are a zero sum game and continue running this around then what's the dollar breakdown if... ? Barbara who is 36 years old and rather gamey looking with her ill fitting thick horn rimmed glasses shorted the original 100 shares...

    Covered Calls Questions

#2 reason is add'l slippage and commissions with CC. But if in a deep ITM CC, place a combo order to close 5 maybe 10 cts above parity. Sometimes you get lucky. And the previous idea of buying a put to lock in gain is functional but can have even more slippage and commissions and can...

    Earnings Volatility Plays

    1) you said candidates needed a minimum IV gap of 15 points 5 BP's needed to evaluate a position NOT do it 2) So this would mean your selling near months and buying more far out months(higher strike), correct? this gives you a positive Vega position. I would have thought if you are...

    Hedging w/Backspreads vs. Protective Puts

If you're long a straddle, natural or synthetic and the underlying takes off, how is that bad? You're in trouble if you're long options and IV falls or if you're short options and IV rises or if you're long puts or short the underlying and the underlying rises or if you're long calls or the...

    Noob question: Synthetic Naked Call

Margin for an option is less than that for stock so if you have the margin to buy and short stock, it makes no sense. If you do not have approval for naked shorting then your idea would work but it's not a good one. Commissions and slippage would eat you alive.
