    Never Rewrite from Scratch

I have worked on legacy systems that were so old and poorly designed, had zero test coverage and were so costly to maintain that the best move was to replace them entirely. That being said, rewriting from scratch should not be taken lightly.

IB with Esignal or Multicharts for RT data

IB is not a solution for historical data. If I was in your situation, I would demo both MultiCharts and Esignal before making a decision. The software you should choose really depends on what features are most important to you.

who can be the best Mentor

I can assure you there is a very large group of software devs who thought they could easily translate their software skills into becoming profitable algo traders. They thought incorrectly. While being able to code may help one finding and maintaining and edge, it is far from guaranteeing it.

who can be the best Mentor

I ask because whether you know how to code or not determines the type of assistance you are capable of receiving.

who can be the best Mentor

To the OP, do you know how to write code?

who can be the best Mentor

What exactly are you trying to accomplish in the near term? Trade part time while working a "regular" job? Trade full-time?

    Risk management

Let's say you are trading five systems and for simplicity sake, each system risks two percent of your capital per trade. Some risk related questions I would be interested in are: 1. How correlated are the five systems? 2. Historically, how have the five systems performed when traded...

How to protect my Automated Trading Soft?

As with anything security, tackle the biggest vulnerabilities first and in your case, that would be the source code for your strategy. But as you mentioned, you have no profitable strategy now so you are better off spending valuable time on figuring out that problem.

Which one of you guys made this reddit post

The guy has some valid points. Most traders fail because they do not have an edge/alpha. They copy the approaches of other losing traders or snake oil peddlers and of course get losing results. There are of course exceptions...usually people who have devoted years of work to this endeavor.

Interview with a Full Time Trader and CTA

Good to know Simples. If you like, send me a PM so I can remember this discussion and I will share what I learn through my research. I am building a custom backtesting platform and one component will have the ability to alert of non performing systems.

Interview with a Full Time Trader and CTA

If I can learn one thing from an interview such as this, I consider it worth my time. One thing Sam mentioned was to potentially only trade a system when its equity curve is above a moving average of the system equity curve. This will prevent you from continuing to trade a system that is no...

What is your life's work outside trading?

My life's work has been: 1. Writing software to solve problems 2. Excel to the best of my ability on my instrument (drums) I have gone through phases where sometimes I focus on either item 1 or 2 more. Right now I am heavily focused on item 1 which is also directly related to trading.

    ATR analysis oopsie!!

How were you able to manually backtest your strategy without it being rules based?

    ATR analysis oopsie!!

I understand. I missed the part about the backtest being manual. How come you are manually backtesting your strategy and not writing code to do so? Even if you don't know how to code, might be worth the investment in paying someone to do it.

Are you using the same code to backtest that you are using for live trading?

Why there are so many different opinions about TST

You might want to check out the EarnToTrade service who is a sponsor on this site. I do not have direct experience with either EarnToTrade or TST, but the draw down restrictions for both pre and post funding seem unreasonably low for TST.
