In which strategy, You buy a stock, sell a call and buy a put of the same strike?

Before I cry uncle and doff my toupee to you for your persistence (and insight), I'm going to nitpick a bit :) #'s 1 and 2 are a bit of a stretch for the retail guy for practical usage... but I can't argue the merit of the idea. As for #3, why would you need the conversion in your...

Options that are correlated to stock movement

It would seem to me that the nickels and dimes that you might collect from finding options priced below historical IV would pale in comparison to the dollars that could be lost due to getting the direction wrong. If you're going to put all of this effort into identifying a trend, why not...

Options that are correlated to stock movement

The only stocks where the IV of the options is fairly constant are low beta issues that need a defribrillator to move. Anything that has any kind of volatility is going to have a fluctuating IV based on the inference by traders of the importance of the news. I doubt that there's anything...

What's the highest IV in the past? Why?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote from arizonadreamer: Not for the faint of heart, but LDK is scheduled to report after the close. I believe IV is over 200. AZD --------------------------------------------------------------------------...

In which strategy, You buy a stock, sell a call and buy a put of the same strike?

LOL. That's a bit of a technicality. Your example utilizes a conversion order to convert A to B but the trader isn't holding a conversion at any time. :)

What's the highest IV in the past? Why?

Yes, it has happened with pending announcements . In my experience, most often just before FDA clinical trials approval/rejection. And it happens elsewhere as well. Martha Stewart's company was way up there when she was on trial for the insider trading gig... I think in the mid 200's.

My option trades for the past 6 months, feel free to ridicule, or offer guidance

LOL. There's no way for me to answer that w/o catching flak. Be that as it may, I've chased these things for 25+ years. I found a trading edge in '07 and it's been running for 20 months now. I don't know if it was always there or if/when it will end but I'm doing quite well as a cynic!

My option trades for the past 6 months, feel free to ridicule, or offer guidance

Here's a fact of life that you are already well aware of. Anyone with any kind of functional, profitable system is not going to reveal its details for a mere pound of flesh. They's be trading it relentlessly. The first breath out of me would be when I'm convinced that it's over and then I'd...

What, no link in his book to his web site so that you can subscribe to his newsletters, videos and software so that you can begin losing immediately???

What's the highest IV in the past? Why?

WHY is the easy part. It was the highest because it wasn't #2 or lower ::D

    Proshares arb?

I'm not familiar with these ETF's so I have no specifics to offer. However, if you have a brain storm, it's generally a good idea to track and crunch the numbers. It's the only way to separate the hair-brained ideas from the potential gems. :)

Repair of a broken bear call spread?

You've gotten some good advice so far. The only thing I'd add is that you need to draw a line in the sand BEFORE you get there. The number is up to you. It may be 20%, 30% whatever but when you have that percentage loss, it's time to re-evaluate the position (close, adjust, roll). The...

My option trades for the past 6 months, feel free to ridicule, or offer guidance

I don't know. We have a recently departed former ET memeber whose cookie cutter approach to selling premium as much as 30% OTM during a bear market proved to be disasterous, particularly with choices in the hardest hit sectors. So tho the probabilities of loss were low, the damage was high...

My option trades for the past 6 months, feel free to ridicule, or offer guidance

I think you have that reversed. Trading the underlying (equities) only needs direction to be correct in order to profit. Timing isn't an iissue since the underlying doesn't decay. A long option needs both. Short option trading requires the avoidance of one direction. The other is OK and...

My option trades for the past 6 months, feel free to ridicule, or offer guidance

I'm a bit confused as to what an edge is, at least in the context of what I read on ET. I believe that I have an edge with my equity trading system (not talking options) It makes consistent returns (strategy) and has modest draw downs (risk). How is that not an edge? Vis a vis options, I...

My option trades for the past 6 months, feel free to ridicule, or offer guidance

30 free trades is nice but make sure that you're getting a reliable platform and good executions before grabbing at that carrot. And if there's a possibiility that you might do more than 30 trades. make sure that their rates are competitive and that the 30 free isn't a loss leader sucking you...

My option trades for the past 6 months, feel free to ridicule, or offer guidance

There's no such thing as trading without emotion unless you're valiumed up to the gills :) When the sh*t hits the fan and the surge in adrenalin jump starts your brain into action (what do I need to do to protect my position?) rather than stoking your fear (OMG, OMG why did I do this?)...
