As Xela said, they can act as a great filter. For example, I have a number of Long equity systems that take signals when price is above the daily 200 sma and some that take signals when price is below the the daily 200 sma.

You are probably better off ditching them all and replacing them with "how to program" books.

Unless you have a track record over several years to back up those projections, your assumed returns for the daytrader in all four scenarios is way too optimistic.
