    Earnings & IV Crush question

    I gave up trying to option play FDA announcements beforehand because they're a wild card where all possibilities can't be covered. I also used to read the FDA web site to get release dates but that was a nightmare. What I ended up with was just trying to look for and trade the inevitable...

    Hey Don, Yahoo is about as reliable as their option BB content :) I'm looking for a 3rd party software that will pull real time quotes from IB into Excel. Their quote limit has devastated my set up and I need an alternative. I suppose that I could subscribe to a 3rd party data feed...

    Earnings & IV Crush question

    As Mark correctly stated, if the option IV did not surge prior to earnings, it's not gong to get crushed post release. I'd add that if there was a pre EA surge, the news release can sometimes keep IV up for a bit afterwards. You can get a general idea of the pre earnings IV change (and a...

    ---> Anybody using LEAPS®?

    The May issue of FUTURES magazine came yesterday and an options article began with: "Market prices for options are rigidly structured by computer models. An option trader may have opinions about on th proper buying and selling price, but ultimately the price will be placed close to an option...

    Horizontal Skew

    I'd agree with MTE... In a calendar, you short the front month and buy the back month so you want the font month vol to be above the back month. Since a sale is a credit and a purchase is a debit, if the near month's IV is higher than the far month then you have a net positive number which is...

    IB imposes a limit on the number of quotes that you can request and it's the sum of those in the platform as well as those requested by the DDE/Excel connection. Is there any non IB software that will pull the quotes from IB (into Excel) so that I can drop DDE and use my full quota of quotes in...

    System to stay intelligent after graduate school

    Even tho I have an undergrad degree in math and went into the medical field, I second these comments. To the OP, you can also audit classes. I think the best suggestion in the chain was to tutor. Tho not at your level (grad), I did that as well. The pay is good and it keeps you on your toes.

    IB imposes a limit on the number of quotes that you can request and it's the sum of those in the platform as well as those requested by the DDE/Excel connection. Is there any non IB software that will pull the quotes from IB so that I can drop DDE and use my full quota of quotes in the...

    Closing naked put positions

    Now now Richard. There's so much more to discuss and you can look forward to learning everything about nothing. Of course, what you mean isn't going to mean what you mean until you learn how to redefine every financial term that you know so that it can mean what it doesn't mean in the context...

    Closing naked put positions

    Mark, If it's our bored Monkey from Yahoo, it's irrelevant to me. Readers will soon catch on to his lack of option knowledge and run in circles routines and those who comprehend will post corrections. It has started with nitpicking over what "out of the money" means. LOL. It's really not...

    Closing naked put positions

    I think that you have things a little mixed up. Since he sold the puts to open, when they're worth 10-15 cts he's looking to buy them to close. That means the other side is selling them. Near the end, you may not like the price because of a wide spread or high IV but you can always close...

    I've been involved with preferred stocks for many years and I know of none from American Express. They may exist but I'm unaware of any... and none are listed at Quantum Online which provides info on preferred stocks and other exchange traded income issues. What gives?
