    Option Strategy Adjustments

LAST WORD? LOL. Nothing ever shuts you up. Your revisiionist history is interesting to watch, kind of like rubbernecking at the scene of a horrible accident. Not that it matters but you have some serious issues comprehending reality. People don't like you wherever you post because...

    Expiration Day

Hey Don, You assume that I know what I'm doing in Excel (I'm a long time 1-2-3-er). How would one set up a timer to copy the Excel quotes every 5 minutes into different columns or rows? Spin

    Expiration Day

In the article, Augen states that he tracks minute by minute charts. He calculates the IV of the just OTM near the money options because of the noise in the just ITM near the money options (g). IOW, if the stock crosses above the strike, he uses the puts for IV calcs and if it drops below...

    Option Strategy Adjustments

Golly gee atticus, what a horrible weekend! I couldn't eat, I couldn't sleep. I couldn't wait to get home to find out if Putzy had me banished to the "Days Of Our Lives" chat board. Whew! Tough one! "I'm NOT asking for SPINDRO to lose his ability to post at ET. In fact, I think that...

    Option Strategy Adjustments

I participated on the Yahoo option bulletin boards for 6 or 7 years. While it didn't have anywhere near the number of retail and professional traders that Elite Trader has, there were a lot of knowledgeable people who generously offered their time and experience. It was a good place to share...

What do you think of this trade.

I don't remember the details but there was an article a while back that indicated (with supporting data) that the leveraged ETF's do not correlate exactly, eg. 2:1 or 3:1 and that using them for hedging or hedging them was problematic.

EEM (emerging markets etf) - selling covered calls, condors?

That's a very interesting concept. Would it be possible for you to explain what happens to the price of a stock when it undergoes a 3 for 1 split? Would you also explain what the subsequent historical chart looks like? I'm always interested in learning. Thanks. :)

    Expiration Day

Excel is linked to my platform so it's in real time. Does anyone have an idea how to capture quotes (say every 5 minutes) from one file and append and save them to another? The idea would be that at the end of the day there would be a snapshot taken at every 5 minute interval for the day. The...

    GM June 1 Calls

I don't think it really matters whether they're in or out of bankruptcy by a certain date. What matters is how the events are perceived and whether the stock rallies or fades. So remember to dance near the door just in case :)

lol, scottrade assumes you are going to lose money with options.

I'm not going to argue about what Scottrade does since I don't use them. However, with an option purchase, cash balance would decrease, available margin would decrease but account value would remain the same (ignroring B/A slippage and commissions) until the value of the option changed. So it...

    Expiration Day

Yeh, that's the guy. Hey MTE, can you throw in a book review as well with your evaluation of the SFO article? No hurry. We can wait until tomorrow. :D

lol, scottrade assumes you are going to lose money with options.

Are you referring to your cash balance? Or is there a chance that you're looking at a graph of available margin? Long options have no loan value so that would explain their non inclusion if you were looking at that.

Condor premium value change vs. stock price change

Yep, gamma scalp along the way to mitigate the time decay and hopeflly, catch some pre earnings IV expansion. My take on it was that if the 2nd month was utilized, one might also be in a position just before earnings to set up a double calendar strangle or straddle with these long lower cost...

Condor premium value change vs. stock price change

Ditto. I never got a handle on that one either. I suppose that it was because it was forward looking rather than the day before earnings when all numbers are right there in front of us. Oh well, another one for the to do/figure out list. :)

Condor premium value change vs. stock price change

Yeh. The ET counter was out of corned beef so I went with a tongue sandwich. Again, you nailed it. It's a balancing act to find a comfortable blend of short versus long, ending up with an acceptable risk/reward ratio. Too much of one leg and you have good protection but little profit and vice...

    Expiration Day

yeh, in atticus's favorite month where options expire on Tuesday (g). OK, sorry. Couldn't resist that one. Yep, expiring options. Obviously I gave the article short shrift. There are more details and maybe it's all a lot of BS... or not. It reminded me of some posts about reverse spreads...

Condor premium value change vs. stock price change

If you can show me a position where there's no loss area in the P&L curve, I can guarantee you that your only adjustment will be to take profits, sooner or later... if so inclined. But given that there's a minimum distance of at least one strike b/t your short and long legs, what do you think...
