LJM Preservation and Growth Fund, collapsed by 82 percent! (WTF?)

Actually, in most cases they ARE the same. I see this trend more and more now where big hedge funds are trying to access the non accredited investor market through a mutual fund version of one of their lesser leveraged strategies. Their performance is almost EXACTLY identical. The only...

LJM Preservation and Growth Fund, collapsed by 82 percent! (WTF?)

Not a good example. The renaissance stock fund is a long only equity strategy that is highly correlated to the S&P 500. Their internal hedge fund trades everything in the world, long and short, options, futures, some of that very HFT. Completely different strategies.

    Properly "spreading" with real spreads.

Overnight, what are you trying to do here? I am not familiar with what happened in your latest loss episode, you were trading spreads? In what markets? Spread trading is a very complicated subject but one I know well. I don't mind offering feedback and help but I'm confused what it is you...

Karen the Supertrader - TastyTrade Hybrid Experiment

Bobby, not trying to be critical, just asking a question. The S&P 500 is up 2.3% on the year. You are down about 3%. Last year you were up about 10% but the S&P 500 was up 20%. Wouldn't you just be better off investing in the S&P 500 and using your time towards something else? Let me...

    The ACD Method

We have about another 18 months left in this credit cycle. So expect stocks to make new highs and probably blow off sometime in 2019. The last legs in bull cycles tend to be pretty violent to the upside but you also get a lot higher volatility. So this will be the best trading environment we...

VIX Manipulation Costs Investors Billions, Whistle-Blower Says

It won't move the vix much. Tomorrow I'll post the spreadsheet here. You can play around with it and shock the numbers. It doesn't do anything.

VIX Manipulation Costs Investors Billions, Whistle-Blower Says

ATM options are very deep and very efficiently priced. Anyone who knocks them out of line will bring in the stat arb guys pretty fast.

VIX Manipulation Costs Investors Billions, Whistle-Blower Says

The OTM options have very little effect. I have the exact formula the CBOE uses on an excel spreadsheet and each strike is weighted based on how close to the money they are. The heaviest weights are the ATM strikes and it tapers off fast as you move further away. The deep strikes have weights...

LJM Preservation and Growth Fund, collapsed by 82 percent! (WTF?)

I agree. The monster in the room is that these guys were trading way too big to compensate for a sub 10 VIX to offer attractive returns. Selling vol the last couple of years was lucrative but it should not have been as lucrative as some of these funds have shown. The market has been forcing...

LJM Preservation and Growth Fund, collapsed by 82 percent! (WTF?)

You are correct, it was there aggressive main fund that had a 63% drawdown. This was suppose to be the conservative strategy.

Can UVXY/TVIX "malfunction" like XIV and SVXY?

The VIX went to 150 in 2008. We've only dropped 1/8th as much as that selloff. The VIX can go a LOT higher.

LJM Preservation and Growth Fund, collapsed by 82 percent! (WTF?)

Wow, this is big. I remember when they took that 67% hit in 2008 and came back from that swearing it would never happen again.
