    Let profits running

There is no best approach since you don't know what the future is going to bring. Converting to a call vertical spread or selling bullish put spreads is a good idea if the stock ends up leveling off. Rolling up is a good idea if the stock tanks. Doing nothing is a good idea if the stock...

    Buying Long-Dated STRANGLES...

"Never" is an inappropriate thing to say. "It depends" is more relevant. What does it depend on? Your timing and selection. Your assessment of volatility. Your risk (fear) and reward (greed) tolerance. Your money management. Either can be more (or less) profitable than the other...

tvgram, Since I don't want it to go to his head, let's just say that someone who replied to you gave you some pretty good info (g) >> There are other ways to hedge a portfolio of shares. Basically, anything that makes money when your stock doesn't go up is a valid hedge. Consider vertical...

can you do this with options???

Some can, most can't. You have to find an edge in order to trade options successfully. that edge has to be some degree of timing and/or selection. Have you thought about trading liquid stocks against your options?

Check out a good option book or web site to compare the two strategies and plot out some what ifs with current premiums to see how the numbers line up. Acceptable risk/reward is a personal thing.

put expiring - convert stock on SHO list?

If the put's bid includes some time premium, sell the put to close. If the put's bid is going for less than intrinsic value, buy the stock and exercise immediately to exit for intrinsic. Your commissions also need to be considered to determine which of the above is better.

    Earnings Butterfly -Dell trade

Yeppers, I am. When there are alternate combo possibilities for achieving the same position, you'd be surprised how many times a better price shows. When I do iron condors I find that the price improvement is often quite better by entering via strangles. Set price alerts and move on to other...

    Leap spreads and stops?

Stops may be useful but I'm not a fan of them because sometimes the B/A spreads get kinda wide and that may trigger them. Plus there's no guarantee that your stop will get filled at a reasonable price if a fast market blows through your price. If the stock is dropping, the first thing that...

    Earnings Butterfly -Dell trade

Another way to increase you profit/limit your losses is to set up other possible equivalent combo orders. Sometimes higher/lower bids come in on the alternate combos than on the natural B/A's prices of the original combo. 5-15 cts more can make a big difference in a butterfly.
