Does Elliott Wave Theory actually work?

That reminds me of Joe Granville and some of his crazy predictions such as southern California would fall into the sea at 5:30 A.M. Pacific time or his 2012 prediction a pending 50% market plunge. But you gotta give him credit for entertainment: bringing a trained chimpanzee to appearances...

    IB wait times suck

FWIW, the primary reason for my needing IB's customer service multiple times this year was upgrade issues. Given that I do what I do on the platform and I rarely utilize all of the new fangled new stuff, I rarely upgraded an existing version until the ultimatum comes that my version will no...

    selling options

Yep, sellers of naked options never lose because they get a premium credit in their account which they get to keep no matter what. Uh-huh, great edge. :wtf: :(

Newbies. learn to profitably trade in 1 day

    1) A "friendly" chart makes a moving average crossover system look easy to trade and consistently profitable. Try one with noise and enjoy the whipsaws. 2) No one with a successful trading systems sells it. They trade the sh*t out of it because that's where the big bucks would be. 3) Them...

    IB wait times suck

I think that in nearly 20 years, I've only experienced a couple of times that IB was down. The bigger problem was my ISP going down. For that reason, I have a small account elsewhere as well as two ISPs so that either one going down doesn't shut me out. For hurricane power outages, it was...

    IB wait times suck

There's no question that IB has customer service issues and I'm not going to defend that. Not that it proves anything (finite sample) but I would guess that it might be a holiday issue because for the 8-10 times that I called this year, the wait was at worst, a few minutes.

    Debit spread to minimize loss

It may be an old argument but you haven't presented anything that indicates that selling is superior. And FWIW, the post by Jack that I was replying to implied that selling options has an edge over buying. You have changed that into" selling puts (the PUT Index) outperforms buying the SPX...

    Debit spread to minimize loss

A little bit of dissent is acceptable. :D And yet, the SPX has outperformed the PUT Index by about 5% over the past 5 years. Timing and selection, eh? Generically, if selling had such an edge over buying, why would anyone buy? They'd be arbing the sh*t out of that edge.

    Debit spread to minimize loss

In and of itself, there's no edge in selling. For all of this, it's timing and selection that makes it work.

    SPX Dec 27 expiry question

Thanks for the suggestions. The Bloomberg one was most helpful :->O The barcharts link didn't work so I did it manually. Changing symbols involved too many clicks. Maybe it was me but not important since I didn't like the display. While the Optionistics site doesn't offer everything, I like...

    SPX Dec 27 expiry question

Speaking of delta and implied volatility, is anyone aware of a free web site that provides option chains with them? It's a headache to boot my trading platform every time I want to crunch some numbers.

    Debit spread to minimize loss

It makes sense from the standpoint of getting some premium but it's not likely to be much. Here are some other repair strategies worth considering as well: https://www.investopedia.com/articles/optioninvestor/05/030105.asp

    SPX Dec 27 expiry question

I can't answer that because the quotes may be stale nor do I see the stats that you're looking at. I don't think that any of this matters as much as what price does in the pre-market Tuesday morning - namely whether you will defend if it's moving against you or lock it in if it moves enough in...

    SPX Dec 27 expiry question

Assuming that closing quotes are accurate (last sale of the option and underlying were at the same time), your $2,655 call closed with a B/A of $26.80x$29.20 (average of $28.00) with a last price of $28.24 with the SPX clsoing at $2,683.34 That's an intrinsic value of $28.34 which is more than...

    SPX Dec 27 expiry question

Monday is Christmas so the next trading day is 12/26. Anything expiring on 12/26 and 12/27 that is reasonably ITM is likely to be trading below parity (average of the B/A) and therefore will have an IV of zero.

Best option strategy for a stock's weekly closing price being higher than its opening price?

If the moves aren't big enough to make it worth trading the stock or calls/puts and you don't wanted to be naked short then you are left with selling premium so that time decay is on your side. That means credit not debit spreads. Even that might be questionable if you win rate isn't above 50%.
