Open Interest - does it have meaning?

That depends on whether you belive the stock moves because they're buying/selling options or whether the options move because they're buying/selling the stock :)

Why real traders do not discuss gains or losses...

Increasing your size isn't a mistake until you screw up :) My two cents is that whether you think in terms of dollars or percent isn't that important. Finding good trades, getting the most you can out of them and minimizing losses is the thing to focus on.

Why real traders do not discuss gains or losses...

Your emotional reaction to gains and losses doesn't tempt fate. You tempt fate by subjecting yourself to more risk than you can manage/tolerate. People brag because they're either bullshit artists or they're looking for approval. People increase their size because they're either too stupid to...

Florida going downhill - get the hell out

Uh huh, Republicans are doing a great job in Florida. Their latest adventure in legislation is an attempt to suppress voter registration and turnout. Unlike his sad predecessor Jebbie, Crist has done a good job governing toward the middle and for the people rather than his party. Don't be at...

Florida going downhill - get the hell out

There's a tee shirt that's perfect for you. Imprinted within an outline of the state of Texas is: SOMEWHERE IN TEXAS A VILLAGE IS MISSING ITS IDIOT :)

    Options market and swine flu.

If considering equities, the small cap bios would be the place to look. These events rarely have any sinificant effect on large caps. Or IOW, there's usually more bang for the buck in a small cap reacting to some news. Circadian's suggestion was dead on. You want to monitor the news and...

    Buy 'em or Spread em??

Keeping some powder dry and scaling in as a position moves in your favor is another good approach. Just make sure that you have a good method for keeping track of your position's net P&L as well as where break even is (either an accurate tally by your broker or a spreadsheet that calcs the...

    Buy 'em or Spread em??

Sell 'em, I don't know the first thing about Kospi options and it probably doesn't matter. Mark's answer would be my general answer as well: 1) When trading options on a very short-term basis, the fewer trades the better. Minimizing slippage is important. Thus single options are better...

    Buy 'em or Spread em??

After an intro like that, I feel like Rodney Dangerfield tripping on my own foot as I enter the room. :)

    Swine Flu...

BTW, do a web search on "Fort Dix + Swine Flu" and read about the swine flu vaccine fiasco in the mid 70's. You can also toss in "Guillain-Barré Syndrome". You might think twice about taking your chances with the flu instead of any new vaccine.

    Swine Flu...

The Spanish flu which killed 20 million peeps after WWI is a swine flu variation and that's why outbreaks are of concern.

    Swine Flu...

Yes, I disn't express that clearly. In normal years, there's a shortage of available vaccine for flu shots and most of the population doesn't bother getting it. What would happen in a pandemic outbreak? Any available vaccine would be in short supply.

    Swine Flu...

It won't matter what kind of health system anyone has if there's a Pandemic outbreak of a lethal flu. There's not enough vaccine or antiviral meds to deal with that. But fortunately, so far it has been much ado about almost nothing.

    Swine Flu...

That may or may not be true because the new swine flu is a mix of swine, bird and human flu strains. Tamiflu was not found to be effective against previous outbreaks of avian flu. The new swine flu strain is a serious concern since the swine flu is attacking healthy young people unlike the...

Newb question about margin required for naked puts

Covered calls and their naked put equivalent hve a lousy risk/reward ratio. Consider using spreads to put the ratio more in line. And don't forget to PM wiskfwee for the secret decoder ring and special information on how to post winning trades after they occur :D

option strategy needed on FDA approval drug stock

What's to think? You paid through the nose for over priced high IV calls and made a 10:1 killing when the good news hit. Now you've done it again, hoping that lightning will strike twice. It's the same story. If it does, you're golden. If it doesn't, you take a hit. I believe if still...

    Shld 25d R/r

Your hyperbole is amusing but it's not relevant to reality (mafia lending, cutting off hands, cutting out kidneys). Charging an indicative rate on hard to borrow stocks isn't predatory lending. No one is forcing you to borrow and short the stock and using credit card interest rates for people...
