A Fund vs. Your Own Money

Hi Smoker, That's exactly what I do since September: build a quasi-fund of several investors (mostly friends who understand what trading is about, who understand particularly my own trading and are OK with all parameters of my typical risk-profile/equity curve). So far haven't reached the...

    AMP's lowered ON currency margins

Wonder what time do they consider as a day-trading session? Is GLOBEX session included?

80 % fail at trend trading

    What is a "profitable trend"?

80 % fail at trend trading

NoD already pointed it out: 100% trends succeed. You first need to understand the price action and only ask questions, not ramble about it.

How do you know there's a trend on your chart?

In reality, 100% of the trends succeed.

Hey 28, That's very interesting but surely is just another evidence how "everything works" in the right hands. Wish you good trading!

A Fund vs. Your Own Money

I keep personal trading account as small as possible to maintain the position size I want. But even in the case of more conservative risk-management day-trading surely offers significantly more than 20% ROI for a retail trader. Very time consuming activity though and not scalable to really big...

    Surf's Special Situation Journal

Most likely you are right. But at least others will read it and maybe some don't fall in the trap of believing Surf really knows what he's talking about. :D

How to define a strong trend ?

It may sound weird, but for me trend or not is identified by... the shape of pullback. It's a little bit hard to explain (NoD just made the best possible job to do that IMO), but that's how it is for me: when I see the directional thrust and the market then retraces in a "good" shape I treat it...

With trend intra-day setups are best of the best in any market, including currencies, which trend very well and more often than stock indices.

A Fund vs. Your Own Money

I agree with most of your post, but 20% ROI per year is... well, very low for the retail trader not constrained with the liquidity issues. Maybe OK if you have a really large account and only position trade so that it doesn't take much of your time. But trading every day for that amount on a...

    Surf's Special Situation Journal

That's really hilarious how Surf who never traded for a living is acting like a guru here, speaking wisdom to mere mortals. :D

See, your reaction is very revealing. :) Yes, I consider myself being part of the market. Not in the sense that my trading has significant effect on how the market changes, but certainly in the sense that I breath with the market every day and evolve as the market evolves. Only if you live...

    Surf's Special Situation Journal

No offense Surf, but you are the outsider compared to me, NoD or Xspurt. Why? Because we trade for a living, this is our business. Your business is writing about trading and occasional (by your own admission hobby-level) demo or very small amount live trading. :) Of course we always adapt...

A Fund vs. Your Own Money

Probably not the case with money managers who run their own companies. There are so many stories of people who made some decent profits, attracted a lot of money, then lost a lot or literally blew up only to come back soon (and reap their hefty commission in the process). The story of John...

20-50mm size in FX with IB

Yes, they change. But stay the same too. Interesting phenomenon isn't it? :)

A Fund vs. Your Own Money

I guess that was an allegory in a sense that managing OPM is like getting a free call option. If you make profits, you get the sweet share, if not you don't risk anything. :)

20-50mm size in FX with IB

When I used Oanda I don't recall getting slipped more than 0.1-0.2 pips except maybe a few rare cases in fast market. Traded less than 10M size, but nevertheless. That's an interesting question overall what maximum size can EURUSD process quickly and without slippage during the liquid hours...
