I have always been curious how they determine the opening print for overnight futures trading after a prior settlement ... is it a price or price + volume weighted average or something else based on spot price ... if indeed there is a cash market trading at the time :confused:

looks like $68.05 bid in Oct. Crude futures with Oct. nat gas looking over $11.00 on open approaching the overnight opening bell :eek:

why was there a sharp selloff in the Crude oil futures markets late friday ? was this some type of gun the stops , or fade the fear ( in case Katrina did not hit so hard ) ? Assuming this is as bad or worse than people thought late last week what are the odds we open or trade...

there used to be a few NYMEX OIL traders would hang out at Morans ( soon to be PJ clarkes ) and other spots near the exchange by the WFC harbor :p

not to sound stupid here ... but if you are trading back months outright ( esp. a year out on comex ) ... you will have slippage ... why can't you just trade the lead month which is DEC 2005 ( for gold futures ) at this time ? :)

have you ever traded stock index futures ? tax treatment of futures for active short term traders is better , but for some people it is better to ease into a position using ETF's than futures ... also some brokers / prop 's do not offer futures ...

you can't be serious ... what months / strike prices are you trying to execute ? you will need a futures broker that gives you COMEX pit traded options but I am sure there is better liquidity there that you indicate -If I short the futures option contract I am playing the futures...
