    The Plunge Protection Team real?

Of course it's a stretch cause people would notice. Central Banks are pretty transparent, even when they try not to be.

Should You Buy Bitcoin Right Now? Don’t Be Stupid

Obviously you would want to take some cash off the table when the number becomes significant vs (a) other investments and (b) your utility curve. That's true about any investment. I guess I will see how a 100k in bitcoin would fit into that thought process when (and if) we ever get there

Bitcoin are we in the huge bubble?

I own whopping 5 coins which is a rounding error in my life and riding it out is a smart move. It's a cheap option (worst case I lose a few grand) and a smart trader always buys cheap options.

Should You Buy Bitcoin Right Now? Don’t Be Stupid

My personal "target" is 40-50k per coin. Simple logic - bitcoin is the currency of crime. Crime economy is estimated as roughly 10% of GDP globally. So that's about 7 trillion a year in nominal dollars. Let's say btc takes over a modest 15% of that, so one trillion economy that's all cash...

Bitcoin are we in the huge bubble?

That's not intrinsic value. Aluminum, gallium etc have "intrinsic value", since there is a practical industry use (about 10% for industrial use). Gold is valued because of consensus, like many other things we consider valuable.

Bitcoin are we in the huge bubble?

Dude, stop smoking your socks! Total market cap of bitcoin (assuming full mining) at the current price is 50 billion. Total market cap of gold is about 7 trillion. To quote a female swaps trader I knew, "a big difference between a dick and a finger".

    The Plunge Protection Team real?

Think of it logically. Daily volume of the US stock market is anywhere from 100 to 300 billion dollars in notional value. To meaningfully influence a price, the buying pressure should be upwards of 5% (10% is probably more like it for a large basket such as a whole market). Let's conservatively...

    Manipulation in the VIX?

Lol. Really? Besides the depth of the book (which is significant), there are the algo curve traders if you are planning to do it in a single contract. Plus, there is a hoard of vol traders like yours truly that are looking at the futures/strip/variance arbitrage. This is actually old news...

The Wizzard of Lies, 8 pm EST

Actually, if you look at the top 100 funds by AUM their names are mostly generic and yet they mange more about 65% of the total AUM in the industry. So while i have not read the paper (i will) i would take their findings with a grain of salt.

did IB decide to screw more ?

A variation on the Hanlon Razor would adequately explain your problem. It's unlikely that IB goes out of its way to increase latency for any group of traders in particular, but it's very probable that they don't care about latency they provide for their clients (because, anyone latency sensitive...

The Wizzard of Lies, 8 pm EST

I recall having a conversation back in 2009 (i think) with a fund-of-funder who was "involved". I kept asking why would anyone invest in something so opaque? Apparently, people did think it was too good to be true. However, nobody suspected a ponzi scheme. Instead, people thought was that he...

Why the middle class is failing

Both Mandarin Chinese and Spanish have more native speakers globally by a fair margin. I think as the role of the United States at the only global power will wane, we will see more and more backlash against English being the lingua franca in business and elsewhere.

Calculating Cash Index - SP 500

For starters, nobody really cares about the official tick - what the real time arbs care about is the value built into the triangle of the actual basket price, price of SPY and index price implied by the futures. All of that can and is calculated in real (and I mean REAL) time. To gain an edge...

Anyone Made 100%+ a Year Consistently With Options Or Know Of Anyone Who Has?

About a million dollars, give or take. It's a technology game. AMMs net ROC vs gross ROC are very different. In my case it's a niche market but with some infrastructure investment in finding opportunities and interpreting them. My firm is not really set up for proper low latency games nor do...

Billionaire Investor Steve Cohen Just Had His Worst Year Since the Financial Crisis

Not really. Mostly it depends on your area of expertise. For example, statistical arbitrage and HFT strategies have done very well because there was a lot of hurt on the street, resulting in disordered liquidations, spastic hedging and otherwise lack of process in the markets. On the other hand...
