Is the bookstore dead, or is AMZN just evil?

A bit overstated, but alot of truth there. Not only will bricks and mortar become a relic in the next 10-15 years, but there is a pervasive attitude of "why pay for anything?".

Is the bookstore dead, or is AMZN just evil?

The Amazon vs Barnes & Noble / Borders is just a metaphor for the continued battle in the rest of the economy. A few lonely voices back in the late 1990's predicted that this sort of thing would happen once enough traffic moved online. As nice as it is to sit in a bookstore and read the books...

Is the bookstore dead, or is AMZN just evil?

There was a blog that detailed down to the penny how much modestly successful author would make on her book deal. The numbers nearly floored me. Essentially, after the publisher took out all of their "expenses" the author might be lucky to be able to repay her advance from the publisher...

OWS: Wingless, Bloodsucking and Parasitic: Meet the Flea Party!

Given enough time and destruction, Illinois would be held up as the model for America. Alot of headline gloss with unions and their cronies getting exorbitant pensions, a deeply embedded crony network of politicians and a black hole of finances that almost never sees the light of day. Those...

Europe rejects U.S., IMF recommendations on debt crisis, stirring doubts about plan

That's a part of it. The other part is the contagion that nobody wants to talk about, as if we left all of that behind in 2008.

    Obamas legacy

That will definitely be a big part of his legacy. I think it will resonate due largely to the fact that he campaigned on all of that "reformist" rhetoric. Little did anyone know that he'd be the biggest advocate of the status quo, especially with lil Timmay advocating for perpetual TBTF subsidies.

A Major Defeat For Obamacare Supporters

The legacy of this buffoon will be something...Of course, he's still looking forward to all of his teleprompter speaking engagements and book deals. I swear the guy's only ambition was fame, the arrogance of the guy is off the charts.

Americans approve of Obama’s jobs bill

I don't know who the response was directed at, but I'm not assailing the average Joe's character. On the contrary, I'm giving him credit for seeing thru all of the economic "spin" that trillions of dollars thrown at the wall will somehow "stick". Instead, his "on the ground" analysis of his...

    Explain todays massive rally eod

Should is the operative word, but everyone is full of "woulda, coulda, shoulda's". If you were trading it, you would know that there were many, many whipsaw moves based on rumors and innuendo. Sharp "flagpole rallies" like we've seen this week, only to be followed by 6-8% down days. Oil...

    Explain todays massive rally eod

Funny, that's what everybody on here said back in 2008. About a year later, I noticed those happened to be their last posts. i.e. most of ET blew out in 2008-09. I guarantee it.

Americans approve of Obama’s jobs bill

That's the only chart I follow. Fuck the "official" employment stats, the labor force participation is where it's at. I read that the "official" consumer confidence numbers were the lowest since 1980. Trillions thrown at the problem and consumer CONfidence just hits new lows.

Occupiers Set To Invade The CBOT!

Good question. The old school ethnic guys that used to trade in the pits have been replaced over the past few decades. So a bunch of "screen traders" isn't exactly an intimidating presence.

No Point Replacing Obama with another Gutless Leader

That would suck, but it's probably the case. I'm holding out hope that Obama has his "LBJ moment" (1968) and his approval ratings torpedo into the ground. Of course, he's far too arrogant to drop out of the race, but the world economies are falling apart at the seems and 13 months is an...

Great guy, but he's got nothing on a horse jockey.

another republican meme discredited: tax cuts pay for themselves.

Thank you. You've put some substance into the numbers that my post was lacking. I've been lambasted by some folks when I made a claim a few years back that all of these gigantic "rebuild America" projects were merely a ruse to fund the pensions and grease the palms of the guys who will "do a...

Is the Fed buying stocks ?

I don't necessarily think that it's micro managed, but I do think that a few well timed "floor supports" can easily do the trick with a market that had the highest short interest in numerous years, not to mention the overall illiquidity of these markets. Throw in the beginning of a new quarter...

another republican meme discredited: tax cuts pay for themselves.

Guess what...the infrastructure of many parts of this country is literally crumbling to pieces. Bridges, roads, etc... We've had all of these surplus taxes in place to supposedly address these issues and yet the money never seems to make it to these repairs. Or worse, things are "patched up"...

No Point Replacing Obama with another Gutless Leader

The center is a political graveyard nowadays. Works well in saner times with a functional economy, but even then it's a helluva balancing act.

lol, this really is a completely moronic poll.
