    NoDoji's Day Trading Log

Hi QT, I'm still working with this a LOT. I'm mainly a counter-trend trader and I realize that if I place a limit order at a particular price as a stock is still moving in the direction opposite my intended position, I run the risk of missing out. This happened 3 times today just .01 penny...

+$212 ESRX and STEC on alert for opening shorts. Just before open I clicked "sell" on STEC at the ask (23.73) and got liftedimmediately, so I fastened my seatbelt expecting a bit of an opening surge. I missed adding to the position on the opening run up by .05 cents, but my pre-open position...

+ $212 Upped my size to 300 on my opening trade (best trade of the day too), then back to 200 just to be sure I didn't get too cocky. :D

    NoDoji's Day Trading Log

Stocks hitting the high/low ticker again and again and again tell me, "I'm getting tired of this crowd, let's you and me run the other way for a bit." (Trend exhaustion, and I look at stochastics and distance from the intraday 20-period moving average as the entry signal) Stocks trading in a...

The 30 most costly trading errors

I haven't been trading all that long, but I've NEVER had a positive result from moving a stop further against my position. I haven't done that for quite a while now and it's amazing how one's profits stabilize when one trades the plan.

    NoDoji's Day Trading Log

    - $52 I spent the day playing with a lot of various strategies. Was trading a LOT and as a result I made an order error that cost me a good chunk of what should’ve been a nice green day. Too many trades to track in the journal today, but I learned a lot about getting the timing of entry...

    - $52 Traded like a madwoman today trying a variety of strategies, small shares, learned a lot about timing, kept losers very small compared to winners. Sadly made a nasty order error early on that cost me a lot before I caught it and cut it. Shoulda been a $200+ day

How can you tell when the crowd is over-optimist or over-pessimist?

Stochastics in the time frame you're trading are a good signal to get your attention. Then allow some room for greed/fear to play out before fading. Also check short interest when you think the crowd is over-optimistic. The latter part of a big rally could be nothing more than...

A trading edge is the easiest thing?

This is the definition and Buy1Sell2 provided one of the best examples: solid risk management. That's what the successful trader has that the majority of traders don't have. That's why the majority fail. All other "edges" pale in comparison.

Looks good to me. The CFO recently picked up a nice chunk of shares at 22.48 and then an equal chunk a week later at 25.08. This one fits into my "If it's good enough for the CFO at 23.78, then I'm getting a bargain at 22.00" strategy. :D (I failed to act on this same signal when LVS's...

Recommendations for a day/swing trading noob?

Ammo, question: I notice price sometimes continues the trend from just above the trend line and sometimes just below. Do you have any rules for entry when looking to put on in the direction of the trend? I watched a Velez live trading demonstration in which he accumulated a long position all the...

The 30 most costly trading errors

Hey 21, long time no talk to! (Thanks so much for the L2 convo a while back, what a difference it's made for me.) I have a #1 thing to DO (and I still fail miserably at it most days): Take ALL your setups! Now, it's important that you have a proven edge and absolute risk management rules...

    NoDoji's Day Trading Log

+ $172 Yesterday ROST ran up on better-than-expected May sales. Dresses were hoppin’ in May and I figured once May’s dress craze was over, there wasn’t a lot to push ROST to a new 5-year high. So this one was on my hot list to short anywhere above 39.00 and catch a few moves into the...

A trading edge is the easiest thing?

If you have success after success after success because as a seasoned, savvy trader you've seen certain things happen again and again and again, you may begin to feel incredibly smart and confident. You may begin to use margin and hold overnight positions because a certain pattern that worked...
