you must be a true moron; congratulations. my discussion sparked some very good responses here. if i didn't start this thread, they wouldn't be here. it doesn't matter what i have to say, it's what can be learned from the responses.

    anatomy of a backtest report

thanks guys, this is exactly what i wanted to get into. slowly but surely i'll understand this stuff. could someone explain profit factor? i know it's gains/losses, and obviously you want it as high as possible.....but why do you want this number high? for example, if it's low, what does that...

i know this is obvious, but...

silk, thanks. could you explain something about adding to winners... say you add, and after you add, the add turns into a loss (not the entire position, just the add). won't that just eat up profits you had from the initial buy point? so how is adding to winners any different than just...

i know this is obvious, but...

we've all heard before that you need to keep losses small and let winners run. we also all know that something this simple, is hard to do. for the sake of this discussion, let's throw out scalping, or any type of trading that requires a high win %. although everyone probably knows what i'm going...

    Cathy's Chimp Charts

.gif is better for charts than .jpg. .jpg is better for photos, but .gif is better for charts because the file size can be kept small and you won't notice much of a difference. if you save a chart as .jpg and try to bring the file size down, it'll start looking bad fast.

    Is intelligence important for trading?

i'm no expert on this, but i've met so many people that talk a lot but don't seem that smart to me. so maybe you're right. on the other hand, maybe it's just personality type and there are smart and not so smart people for all types. in a beautiful mind, that guy was super smart, but he was a...
