So Laslo Birinyi just called the bottom on CNBC...

They LAUGH at the guy because he has been BEARISH since 2002, and then some. Imagine if he actually had to put HIS OWN MONEY where his mouth is . . . calling for Dow 5000 nearly six years ago?

So Laslo Birinyi just called the bottom on CNBC...

You mean you are more interested in listening to what Lazlo Birinyi has to say than someone like "S2007S" here on ET??? You can't be serious! :D

With a comment like that, you must be fairly new to trading the financial markets. Last time I checked, my clearing firm does not keep track of the "Beige Book." My clearing firm keeps track of price. So do I. Big difference. And one that you clearly have yet to learn. Good Luck. :)

So Laslo Birinyi just called the bottom on CNBC...

And for what it's worth, my VIEW is based on being a subscriber to his service ( back in 1998 ) and being on the phone with he and his office associates on several occasions.

So Laslo Birinyi just called the bottom on CNBC...

Unfortunately, his analysis places a lot of weight on net volume stats and they can absolutely KILL you! For example, in the "correction" of 1998 he kept saying how the Blue Chips ( various Dow stocks ) were going down on no institutional block volume, and that they were BUYS because of this...

Mup, care to do an EWT analysis on "USO" I'm starting to "smell" an opportunity here in Crude Oil. :)

Is this an oil blow off top in the making?

You must not be a technical trader. Look at a crude oil chart lately?

    hmmmm, frontrunning ? Could be.

Yeah genius, I guess I'm just not that good at "photo-shopping" bogus ES trades like you . . . http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=124977 All from someone that was wondering a few weeks back if the FED could put a price "cap" on a global commodity like crude oil . . ...

Agreed. But as you point out, Baron has a financial interest in seeing web-activity generated by "CON-troversial" posts. Thus, the mods simply take a backseat, refuse to be pro-active, and conveniently "hide" behind telling users to use the ignore button. it's simply the easy way out...

    Assent VPN Down?

I can call into the main number, but no one is picking up at the trading desk . . . Time: 1:15PM EST. Outgoing system status says that "all systems are functioning fine"

You act as if the financials are the ONLY sector that makes up the SPX. Take a look at how other heavily weighted sectors fo the SPX are doing . . . Energy, Materials, Info Technology, etc. http://www2.standardandpoors.com/spf/pdf/index/SP_500_Factsheet.pdf Half of the earnings in the SPX...

You got "pennied". Happens all the time with automated trading programs. You have over 5,600 posts on ET and you've never seen this before in thinly traded stocks? This has been going on for years, especially in afterhours. Where have you been???

Excellent point. And one that many "newbies" fail to understand before they've shot their wad "fighting" moves that they believe have nothing to do with fundamentals. Their is indeed, often a "disconnect".

    Banking Sector: Analyst Meredith Whitney

I believe that she said that it could fall to $16 per share in the article below, and that statement by her was made back in late February. Not sure if she has revised that or not. http://www.crainsnewyork.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080225/FREE/191179638

And what kind of a BEAR MARKET have the energy and oil service stocks been in? How about basic materials? Fertilizer companies? Mining equipment? Or how about the nation's defense stocks? Plenty of uptrends for a TRADER to find. Successful traders don't "pigeon-hole" themselves into...

He doesn't. Just as he has yet to figure out how to make an international phone call to IB in HK. http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=125129 :D

What is going on with IB's HK server? will they please answer the phones?

I think that he's still trying to figure out how to make an international phone call . . . :D

Should now target 1415.50 SPX and quite possibly the 1432.90 - 1435.00 area.
