Is it all Greece? What about North Korea?

The Korean situation is huge. The report was just released today saying without question a North Korean submarine torpedoed the South Korean ship. South Korea is demanding a drastic international response. I hardly think this issue will just be forgotten about...

Where's the inflation? US CPI unexpectedly drops 0.1%

[/b] Point taken. [/b] I will need to look at this more closely before I comment. I have no idea what a birth-death adjustment is.

Where's the inflation? US CPI unexpectedly drops 0.1%

I think many don't believe government numbers because of their own anecdotal experiences. Sure, you personally had a +40% hike in insurance premiums. Doesn't mean everyone did. If the official numbers don't jive with someone's personal situation, they will claim the official numbers are...

Where's the inflation? US CPI unexpectedly drops 0.1%

:D To be honest, deflation where I live in this case. We pay significantly more in Canada for beer than the USA, however.

Where's the inflation? US CPI unexpectedly drops 0.1%

No, I really didn't know what you meant. And no, it wasn't being anal retentive, the difference between CPI and core CPI is essential.

Where's the inflation? US CPI unexpectedly drops 0.1%

OK, how do YOU measure inflation?

Where's the inflation? US CPI unexpectedly drops 0.1%

I think you're wrong. Out of control inflation will bring about it's own negative political consequences. Is it not possible that the Fed will target modest inflation? (i.e. what every central bank strives for).

Where's the inflation? US CPI unexpectedly drops 0.1%

Actually you are wrong. CPI includes food and energy. CORE CPI excludes them. The decrease was in the CPI, which includes food and energy.

Where's the inflation? US CPI unexpectedly drops 0.1%

I get your point. But why do you assume nobody will be able to do anything to combat inflation in the future?

Where's the inflation? US CPI unexpectedly drops 0.1%

I think you mean calls for inflation are PREmature. In which case I agree with you. However, I do not posess a crystal ball like you do. Surely you will be able to profit immensley since you already know that inflation going through the roof is a given?

Where's the inflation? US CPI unexpectedly drops 0.1%

Please... Think about the entire effects of deflation before making such comments. Who will not benefit? Anyone who owes money. Anyone who wants to sell their car. Anyone who wants to sell their house. I could go on but I won't. In any case, although some claim to have a crystal...

Where's the inflation? US CPI unexpectedly drops 0.1%

Right. I forgot. Don't pay attention to anything any government says because it's all manipulated. This data sure doesn't support your long gold rants, does it?

Where's the inflation? US CPI unexpectedly drops 0.1%

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=afm0rwJemeTo&pos=1 Some people here argue that massive inflation is inevitable. So far the facts don't support this theory. Deflation is still very much a possibility and cause for concern.

    Bp

My personal opinion is that BP won't stop getting hammered until the spill has been stopped and some type of reasonable estimate as to the liability has been determined. Right now there is too much uncertainty surrounding the cost of this disaster. Not only the direct cost to BP of attempting...

Reuters: Germany to ban shortselling, tonight

Your argument for eliminating interest rate swaps is very unconvincing. I'm not sure what all of the "third world getting screwed" business is all about, but companies use interest rate swaps primarily to hedge against interest rate risk via floating vs. fixed exchange rates. Indeed, if...
