Worst recession since 1930s appears to be over

Economic activity IS stabilizing, and the recession IS ending. These are facts that will be confirmed by positive GDP growth for Q3. By no means do I think things are rosy, but there is nothing in this article that I feel is a lie. The definition of a recession is not "tough times" or...

Worst recession since 1930s appears to be over

I think your part hat comment was sarcastic, but I'm not sure why... If most parts of your country are saying they are seeing economic activity stabilizing or improving, is that not indeed a reason to celebrate? Unless you're short of course.....

Tomorrow Wednesday 09/09/2009: Beginning of Bear Leg

Little early to be patting yourself on the back, don't ya think? One thread's worth of comments by no means represents the majority on ET. There are plenty of bears who post on here, possibly even more than bulls right now.

    The logic of an atheist

Peil is brainwashed and cannot fathom atheism. I suppose it is much in the same way that atheists cannot fathom a god. And the world turns.

EXTREME RALLY coming: S&P 500 Moving Averages Show ‘Fierce’ Rally

Rally was "confirmed" months ago. Admit it, you missed the boat and are scared to get aboard at these levels. You're angry with yourself for remaining stubborn and bearish, while all your friends are making money hand over fist.

Buffet shifts and is buying fewer stocks and more corporate and government debt

Of course he regrets not selling prior to 2008....who doesn't?! Of course he's less bullish on stocks now....they've had a massive run up from the lows!

    9.7% unemployment Green shoots?

No you wouldn't. You'd find a reason to be bearish. You're what we call a perma bear. Someone who filters out good news, and emphasizes bad. Fundamentally, I can understand your bearishness, and respect that opinion. But I don't respect the fact that you do not acknowledge any good news...

Canada Posts First Job Gain in Four Months on Finance

Always a good sign for sure. Many were part time, but part time is better than nothing! GDP also increased in June, albeit by 0.1%, but it's growth nonetheless. It's early, but it appears our wounds in Canada are starting to heal.

    Is R worth learning?

There's not a whole lot to learn. Excel can calculate correlation between sets of data fairly easily without having to know the specifics of the calculation.

    Publix strikes again!

Congrats on your gain. But I would suggest that a one time, 50% gain does not cement the fact that you can trade well (maybe you can, but I don't think this proves it).

    9.7% unemployment Green shoots?

Unemployment rates such as this were priced into the markets a long time ago. Everyone knew unemployment would reach these levels, so why is anyone suprised? To be honest, I'm suprised it's not HIGHER. My theory is to watch out when unemployment starts DECREASING. That's when the market...

There is no rehabilitation of offenders

Off topic, but I love the idea of a Pope rounding criminals up and executing them. Thou shall not kill? Anyways, I agree with this method. :D

Indeed. Which subsequently causes the countries you raised tariffs on to do the same to your country. In the end, everything costs more and everyone loses.

    Outstanding article must read.

....I'm glad you're thinking, unfortunately you have the wrong thoughts. Protectionism is EXACTLY about restricting other nations from trading, in an ATTEMPT to support your own industrial base. Once a country imposes tarrifs on another country, the other country naturally retaliates. It...

    Outstanding article must read.

You again, with your great wisdom! Never said protectionism cause the Great Depression, but it certainly hurt the cause. Have you ever taken an economics course? Protectionism is an incredibly terrible thing for an economy. Or perhaps you know more than most if not all world leaders and...
