H1N1 Black Swan? CDC Says 40% in US May Contract H1N1; Hundreds of Thousands May Die

There is no way Americans will stand for compulsory vaccinations, IMO. If this is tried, it will lead to major riots. I'm just basing this opinion on the comments made by normal, regular ole' Americans, family or not, that I've spoken to about this. There seems to be a lot of...

H1N1 Black Swan? CDC Says 40% in US May Contract H1N1; Hundreds of Thousands May Die

Am I concerned? If things get materially worse, then yes, I will be concerned. I guess that I'm concerned that they might. I don't think I will get the vaccine given the risks associated with it and the lack of knowledge as to whether it will be safe or even remotely effective.

H1N1 Black Swan? CDC Says 40% in US May Contract H1N1; Hundreds of Thousands May Die

No one really knows what's going to happen as mutating viruses are impossible to forecast accurately, but the big fear is that the H1N1 strain will mix with seasonal flu, mutate in ways that make it more lethal, and that it will re-emerge with a vengeance this winter. The H1N1 strain has...

Get ready for banking's next headache

This is a very good article. I came home 20 minutes ago, and boy, did I get a dose of very negative facts from a former commercial mortgage broker for Flagstar Bank. I won't elaborate, but suffice it to say that you can buy residential, commercial/office/retail assets for literally 1/3 or...

CDS investors want to see the companies fail .....

This is why, although I am filled with trepidation at times venturing into areas that may be over my knowledge base, if my understanding of CDSs and their private party nature is correct (i.e. they are private contracts, unregulated and not tracked by any agency, with no transparency), I would...

7-23-09: Roubini Says "Perfect Storm" Likely To Create Double-Dip Recession

But are we turning Japanese? That's what I would love to know, because then I'd become a fearless trader (well, maybe).

    Detroit story

Detroit is beyond repair. There are other cities in this category, also, but that doesn't take away from the basic fact that the math can never, ever work out for Detroit. It is a shithole of a city by any metric, filled with festering corruption, shameful public schools (and that's saying a...

Japanese Exports Fall at Slower Pace as Slump Eases...

You know, I actually believe that's a healthy thing. We have a bunch of slovenly elected officials, fat and happy, who are pretty much useless, for the most part, and who'd never break a sweat like that, because they just don't care enough.

I think Taiwan is going to be restrained from its true potential, which there is a lot of, by a menacing China. I don't think there's much the U.S. can do to keep China from constraining Taiwanese full potential.

I know the SEC is busy but.....

They didn't do anything about Madoff, even when Markopolos "drew them pictures and gave them a road map." And that was a 50+ billion dollar ponzi scheme, handed to them on a silver platter. What do you expect from the gutless and useless and incompetent and nepotistic SEC?

I am bullish on South Korea, in terms of their underlying economy, demographics and national skill level. If the North Korean geopolitical problem is resolved, South Korea will take off like a rocket.

    CNBC Party Hat Indicator

CNBC is getting close to 'Party Hat' euphoria stage. There is an analyst who has actually tracked this and found a nearly perfect correlation with CNBC euphoria and bullish sentiment (something like where 70%+ of analysts on their network are long) and extreme corrections. Has anyone seen...
