IB changes margin rules abruptly without informing

That is my point. If IB is changing its margin rules, they should communicate it to clients. Don't you think so? If they are changing their initial margin rules, they should let the clients know. My order executed when I didn't have enough money in my account to complete initial margin.

    Interactive Brokers TWS Bug Thread

I hope IB reps here are reading this: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=248283 This is more serious than anything on this thread so far.

IB changes margin rules abruptly without informing

I know it is a software glitch. I have decided that I will move a portion of my account to Advantage, once my account reaches 6 figures or more. I here they are much better than IB as far as futures trading is concerned. Right now my account is too small and I will let it remain with IB. My long...

IB changes margin rules abruptly without informing

Thanks for the explanation. But in this case, IB really screwed up. Infact, they screwed me, a long time customer of theirs :( So, these are the timestamps. bought ES using limit order when it should have been rejected @ 15:19:37 Auto-Liquidated by IB NQ @ 15:20:37 Overnight margin...

IB changes margin rules abruptly without informing

I have been a long time IB customer and I trade fairly actively. I have observed that IB changes its margin policy from time to time, and without any communication to its clients. Maybe the algos change with new TWS release, whatever it is, the way TWS behaves regarding checking margin...

    Interactive Brokers TWS Bug Thread

Bob, I trade only FX and futures and don't witness the problems you report. Yes, I do have problems maybe once in 2-3 months, but nothing like what you report. Do the issues you report primarily affect stocks? Why don't you switch brokers, I would find it really hard to trade with IB with...

    Asset protection

Make your tens of millions, get on a plane and move off to an Island or some exotic Asian country. Hire tens of young ladies for house-help and live a lavish life. And no one will be able to touch your assets.

You have an excellent track record. Given the fact that you are taking short term opportunistic trades, over 2 yrs maintaining this kind of track record is very good. You don't have to be correct on direction only, but managing a portfolio your beta exposure to market also has to make sense...

not intraday but overnight. Bright and few others will give you overnight leverage. He said he doesn't consider himself as a trader, rather as a portfolio manager (which I assume means that his holding period is days to weeks). I don't know if he will get 1:15 overnight, even if he gets 1:10...

    Asset protection

If you are an independent trader just trading your own money, against whom do you need to protect your assets? Typically if you are not accepting OPM, making money from trading is equivalent to making money from a regular job as far as liability etc is concerned. Why and how are your assets...

Starting a fund / raising capital

Given your numbers, you are highly underleveraged! You mentioned 5.8% monthly Max DD with. 500k of PL. If you increase the leverage by 4, you will have 25% Max DD and generate PL of 2m. 25% DD is something that most people can easily digest and live with, this is especially more true when it...

Starting a fund / raising capital

yes if you are stocks only CTA is not for you. Sorry for the confusion. But if you do stocks only, why not go the usual route of a prop stock trading firm. No investor hassles, at least 1:15 leverage on your capital. You will start making at least 5x what you are making now from day 1. Sounds...

Starting a fund / raising capital

Yes, solid numbers indeed. And you are already at 1mm. Just start a CTA and list on Autumngold etc. CTA formation costs are less than 15k with first rate lawyer etc. You can get it done for less than 5k if you are a bit thrifty though. I am sure within a year of listing on IASG, Barhedge etc...

Starting a fund / raising capital

So, you are saying open a prop. trading futures firm for Sharpe >3. Sharpe < 2 and below, go the OPM route, because the high Sharpe will allow much faster compounding on your own money and OPM won't be needed. Thanks!! Another poster I respect hugely on ET wrote basically the same thing few...
